PROFESSIONAL LAND SURVEYOR

Fischer Land Surveying & Engineering of Langdon, ND is looking for a motivated self-starter who is looking to join our team with the possibility of advancement within our company. We primarily serve NE ND and NW MN but have also done work across the state of ND. We have continued to grow our client base and projects over the past 28 years, striving to provide the most accurate and quality services for our clients. We are a small company where every employee plays an important role. This position will work in both public and private sectors providing topographic, boundary/cadastral, construction, ALTA, As-built, land development, easement, residential, farmstead, lake lots and commercial surveying. We also design open channel drains and have helped create 30 assessment drains in northeastern ND. As a PLS, you will work with entry level, experienced surveyors and other relevant support staff.

The advantage of working for a small firm is you get to take a project from conception to construction. Applicant will be performing a wide variety of different types of surveys which is both rewarding and challenging. Overnight travel is extremely rare, which makes this desirable for any individual with a family or for individuals who are tired of excessive overnight travel. This position is an excellent opportunity that may lead to a more prominent role as a Surveyor Manager which would include becoming responsible for bidding projects, overseeing, scheduling and managing the daily operations of multiple survey crews.

This is a full-time salaried position. Wage depending on experience. $90,000 - $125,000

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Be in the field for a minimum of 1 year to understand the survey methods for this area.
  • Work alongside our staff to get to know and learn their capabilities.
  • Work alongside the owner to understand the retracement surveys in this area with procedures used for the area.
  • Research and gather data for a project so the field crews have all of the information they need in the field to do the survey with minimal trips.
  • Set up the survey for the field crews if needed or educate the crew chiefs on how to accomplish the task.
  • Delegate tasks to those working under your direction so they may grow professionally and within the company.
  • Gather field survey data to determine precise location and measurements of points, elevations, contours, etc. through the use of conventional surveying and GPS methods. Prepares accurate field notes, drawings and records change in conditions while in field.
  • Check the data and update the basemap in house so it is current.
  • Write legal descriptions, draft certificates of survey and provide guidance to subordinate staff on corner records.
  • Participate in pre-survey planning meetings with the Survey Party Chief on a consistent basis by providing updates and progress during all phases.
  • Ensure schedules and productivity objectives are achieved.

Job Requirements and Qualifications

  • PLS with 5 years or more years of experience. Must be able to be licensed in ND and MN.
  • Proficient in Autodesk Civil 3D and MS Office software.
  • Preference is given to applicants with Trimble Expereience. We utilize R10/R8/5600 along with TGO and TBC software.
  • Must be detail orientated, self-motivated with the ability to think independently, and have strong listening, interpersonal and organizational skills. Ability to speak and write English clearly.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record and provide a drug test if asked to do so.
  • Applicant will be both indoors and outdoors and be capable of lifting 50-75# and do manual field labor tasks such as clearing vegetation, driving in rebar/lathe for staking, be able to walk on uneven terrain and be capable of standing or walking for long periods.
  • Proven work history with strong work ethic.
  • Reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work.
  • Must be a team player.
