Job Overview:
As the Regional Vice President of Human Resources, you'll be responsible for leading the efficient and consistent management of the organization's people practices, culture, programs and processes in three regional markets. The Regional Vice President of Human Resources will lead strategic human resources support, planning and development of initiatives to align with company Human Resources policies and best practices as well as overall company strategy.
This position spans a broad range of responsibilities in many areas, including: cross-functional team leadership and counsel to the senior executive team, organizational development, leadership development, training, full-service recruitment, employee relations, performance management, compensation, payroll, benefits, wellness, and organizational leadership on an executive level.
Compensation: $195,000.00 - $234,000.00 annually
FirstService Residential will compensate the successful candidate in accordance with the posted range. The salary or wage paid to the successful candidate will be commensurate with experience, education, and specific job responsibilities. For positions designated at a client's property, the salary or wage will also be premised upon the client's directive. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future .
Your Responsibilities: The job duties listed are typical examples of the work performed by positions in this job classification. Not all duties assigned to every position are included, nor is it expected that all positions will be assigned every duty.
Strategic Business Partner:
  • Work directly with local senior leadership, regional leadership, and national leadership to align Human Resources activities and initiatives to meet and exceed organizational, regional and local goals and objectives.
  • Serve the organization as a trusted advisor in providing advice on how to maximize the culture and engagement of employees at all levels of the organization and key external stakeholders.
  • Partner with members of the senior leadership team to advance initiatives, address concerns, and manage all areas of Human Resources.
  • Manage and direct local Human Resources teams, including directors, managers, generalists, recruiters, coordinators, administrative support, and other associates, as assigned.
  • Recommend process improvements within internal groups of FirstService Organization to streamline associate activities and functions; work cross-functionally with other members of the senior leadership team to identify best practices and areas for improvement.
  • Develop and track metrics around regular HR dashboard reporting for key business leaders to identify successes and areas for improvement; utilize industry and market benchmarks in Human Resources for comparable information and analysis.
  • Participate in sales presentation for potential communities. Be able to articulate the benefits of FirstService Residential and help to represent the organization in a positive manner.
Recruiting and Retention:
  • Enhance talent management, acquisition strategies, and the processes needed to support organizational talent objectives (e.g. succession planning, key talent development, workforce planning, etc.).
  • Ensure that robust recruiting and on boarding processes exist to attract the depth and diversity of talent needed to meet the company's business objectives.
  • Monitor costs for recruiting; report recruiting benchmarks and costs, as needed.
Organizational Development:
  • In collaboration with the senior leadership team, lead change management activities needed to support organization development and integration initiatives.
  • Develop human resource planning models to identify competency, knowledge and talent gaps and develop specific programs for the filling of the gaps.
  • Talent management through proper succession planning programs for key contributor and management positions.
  • Training and development programs for preparing employees for more significant responsibilities and general business development programs to enhance employee knowledge and understanding of the business of the company.
Performance Management:
  • Work in collaboration with senior leadership and national Human Resources support to develop, implement, and enhance associate coaching, feedback, recognition, discipline and termination processes for local and regional markets.
  • Develop and facilitate annual performance appraisal process and subsequent training for associates and/or managers in local and regional markets.
  • Work in collaboration with senior leadership and local and regional managers to develop and support an associate recognition and engagement program; utilize industry best-practices for enhancing associate engagement and reducing turnover.
  • Work in collaboration with local and regional managers on safety activities, including but not limited to: safety committee, safety training, annual training, on-site training and site visits, and recommendations for safe workplace activities and practices.
Culture and Communication:
  • Lead in collaboration with business to develop initiatives to sustain and elevate culture
  • Develop communication themes that direct communication of all company meetings whether in person or via conference call.
  • Ensure communication is thorough, aligned to core values and culture shaping while connecting associates to the organization.
Employee Relations:
  • Following national Human Resources practices, manage the investigation process for any employment-related investigations; this may include interviews, depositions, written statements, documentation and notes, and presenting findings and recommendations to senior leadership and members of the executive team.
  • Manage discipline process in local and regional markets to support consistent documentation, standardized practices, and enforcement of company policies and procedures.
  • Manage termination risk and separation agreements (waiver and release documents) for any involuntary terminations, following the national Human Resources best practices.
  • Manage, implement, track and analyze exit interview statistics to understand turnover, areas for improvement, and opportunities for feedback to senior leadership and local and regional teams.
  • Ensure compliance to local, state and federal regulations. Ensure self and team stay updated on current as well as upcoming changes to regulations. Be proactive to planning for changes and communicate to those affected.
  • Ensure smooth and strategic plan is applied to transitioning new communities and acquisitions.
Local Administration of Payroll, Benefits, and HRIS:
  • Provide feedback from the field to Shared Services team to work in partnership to develop compensation, benefits and HRIS driven initiatives
  • Manage and support Shared Services initiatives, including payroll updates and changes, HRIS best practices, benefits administration, and utilization of the Shared Service Center (SSC).
Additional Duties Responsibilities:
  • Practice and adhere to FirstService Residential Global Service Standards.
    Conduct business at all times with the highest standards of personal, professional and ethical conduct.
  • May participate in any variety of meetings and work groups to integrate activities, communicate issues, obtain approvals, resolve problems and maintain specified level of knowledge pertaining to new developments, requirements, policies, and regulatory guidelines.
  • Ensure all safety precautions are followed while performing the work.
  • Follow all policies and Standard Operating Procedures as instructed by Management.
  • Perform any range of special projects, tasks and other related duties as assigned.
Education Experience:
  • At least 10 years of relevant HR leadership experience with significant depth across the various HR functional disciplines and proven ability to lead a team of HR specialists and generalists. Strongly prefer at least 2-4 years previous experience leading the Human Resources function for a similar type of field based, dynamic, service business.
  • Extensive experience creating HR processes, practices and policies to support high growth, field based organizations.
  • Experience in similar roles supporting the HR function of a public company
  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex change and organizational integration.
  • Bachelor's degree in business, human resources or related discipline, advanced degree preferred.
  • Human Resources certifications including PHR and SPHR (certified through the Human
  • Resources Certification Institute, HRCI) or SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP (certified through the Society for Human Resources Management, SHRM) strongly preferred.

Supervisory Responsibility: Lead, manage, coach, and develop HR team within the geographic area of responsibility for continued higher contributions to the business.

Travel: Travel to regional offices, including overnight travel, may be required.
