First Christian Church is Hiring a Child Care Coordinator Near Tucson, AZ

SECTION 1: DEFINITION AND DESCRIPTION

General Description: The Child Care Coordinator is a part time position responsible for the oversight of childcare for those children left in childcare at the church from the ages of infant through age 7 (or 2nd grade). Exceptions may be made for children over the age of 7 in consideration of developmental issues. The Coordinator is not only responsible for providing child care and Christian Education, but also for supervising the Child Care Attendant, and overseeing scheduling and coordination of needed childcare with the Ministry Planning Team and Minister. Regularly communicating needs and issues with the Education and/or Worship Team Leader Ministry Planning Team Leaders and providing and supporting early childhood Christian Education.

Work Hours and Week: The primary work hours for this position are from 08:30 am to 12:30 pm on Sundays. This may be subject to change based upon Church calendar changes and membership needs. Additional childcare coverage may be required for other days of the week and special events dependent upon assessed need. This could include Thursday night choir practice, memorial services, weddings, etc.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

· CPR and First Aid certified for infants and children

· Willingness to implement childhood Christian Education

· Excellent communication skills with adults, children and families; both written and verbal.

· Leadership and supervisory skills

· Ability to read, implement and use policies and procedures, curricula, calendars, etc.

· Training in the signs and symptoms of Child Abuse, reporting procedure and legal responsibilities. Training will be provided by the church.

· Physical ability to interact, play with, and supervise young children

· Ability to lift 50 pounds

· Current Finger print clearance card.

· Willingness and ability to attend additional training as requested and required.

· Up to date vaccinations of COVID and other illnesses affecting children.

Desired Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

· Education and experience in early childhood care and/or education, experience in positive and progressive childhood Christian Education is a bonus, but not a requirement.

· Familiarity with cleaning procedures for childcare facilities

Supervision: This position is supervised by the Minister in collaboration with the Ministry Planning Team Leaders and Personnel Chairperson.

SECTION 2: JOB DESCRIPTION AND SCOPE OF WORK

Childcare:

· Monitor, oversee and supervise children in childcare. This includes being in proximity to the children and observing them; interacting with them in a way that allows for awareness of all children and their activities; anticipating possible hazards and unsafe circumstances; and intervening in a way to preserve integrity of the children’s esteem and confidence while maintaining a safe learning environment .

· Interact with children and provide them with structured and positive learning activities. This will include Christian Education curriculum provided by the Church.

· Provide direct care as needed including, but not limited to changing diapers, offering drinks, and minor first aid and comfort. This would also include reporting emergency situations to parents, church leaders and emergency response personnel as needed.

· Maintain a secure environment. This includes but is not limited to utilizing sign in/out procedures, directing older children to other locations/persons, scrutinizing adults who have contact or seek contact with the children. Following safety and security procedures and protocols.

· Maintain a clean and healthful environment. This includes providing basic cleaning of immediate spills and messes and assuring that children practice basic hygiene. Implementing additional health and safety guidelines as identified by the local health authorities and the General Board of the church.

· Follow Church policies and procedures.

· Will document clearly in writing and communicate any problems or issues regarding early childhood Christian Education and childcare to the Minister, Education and Worship Chairpersons/Team Leaders and/or Personnel Chairperson. This can include, but is not limited to, injuries that occur to the children; conflicts that occur with parents; suspected abuse/neglect; unsafe conditions; conflicts that occur with children; use of foul language; events that could lead to problems for children, parents, church members or church staff. Such communications must occur before the end of the work shift and written documentation must occur within no more than a week and possibly sooner, depending upon the nature of the issue.

Christian Education:

· Will follow and implement curriculum provided for early childhood during Sunday Church School hours. This can include reading stories, dramatization, arts and crafts projects, etc. with the children as described and required by the curriculum.

· During worship hours (10:30 am – 11:45 am):

o Will bring children into the worship space during the worship service for Children Worship and Wonder when notified by the assigned church member.

o Will support the designated church members during Children Worship and Wonder. Will be familiar with and use the designated curriculum for Children Worship and Wonder and may provide the lead for the implementation of Children Worship and Wonder stories and activities. [Exception will be made if there are a number of very young children and/or infants in childcare who are too young to attend Children Worship and Wonder (below the age of 4). If this is the case then the coordinator and/or attendant will return to the nursery to support the young children.]

· Will model and use ongoing opportunities to promote and teach cooperation, acceptance and tolerance of all people and children, peace-making activities and skills at all times with the children including during non-scheduled/designated activities.

Coordination:

· Will oversee the scheduling of self and childcare attendant to cover the regular childcare times and others as requested and required. This will include coverage during requested absences of self and childcare attendant in coordination with the Minister and Ministry Planning Team Leaders.

· Will monitor use and request needed supplies for activities and health and safety of the children in the childcare environment. This can include First Aid items, cups, crayons, cleaning supplies, wipes, diapers, sun screen, etc.

· Will arrive 20 to 30 minutes ahead of the time that children should be arriving to prepare the environment for the children, including assuring cool water is available, materials are set up, sign-in sheets and pens are in place, etc.

· Will communicate regularly (at least quarterly) to the Minister and Ministry Planning Team Leaders regarding the status of childcare and early childhood education with the appropriate children, progress, needs and issues.

· Will train and supervise the childcare attendants and communicate any needs and concerns to the Minister, Ministry Planning Team Leaders and/or Personnel Chairperson regarding the attendants’ performance.
