Fincantieri Marine Repair is Hiring a Rigger- First Class Near Jacksonville, FL

Basic Purpose and Function:

The Rigger I will be responsible for removing, repairing/replacing and reinstalling equipment and machinery components for repairs to ships and boats in the United States Navy (USN), United States Coast Guard (USCG), Military Sealift Command (MSC), and commercial vessels. He/She must be able to complete and execute the assigned work tasks following regulatory specifications assigned to the vessel.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Ability to remove and install ship’s equipment and machinery.
  • Ability to rig equipment and machinery in and out of the interior ship compartments.
  • Ability to use hand and power tools to remove and reinstall equipment and machinery.
  • Ability to properly handle and dispose of hazardous materials.
  • Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces.
  • Ability to work non-standard work hours, as required.

Education and Experience:

CDL License (preferred

Five to Seven (5-7) years of relevant marine experience preferred.

  • High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Working knowledge of the Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) Standard Items.
  • Working knowledge of local NAVSEA Standard Items, specifically Southeast Regional Maintenance Center (SERMC).

Major Responsibility (Functions/Duties):

  • Moves machinery and equipment, using hoists, dollies, rollers, chain falls, fork trucks, cranes, Self-Propelled Modular Transporters, and trucks.
  • Removes and installs main machinery and equipment such as condensers, compressors, pumps, forced draft blowers, main feed pumps, various types of valves, cargo handling machinery, anchor handling gear, boats davits, cranes, elevators, conveyers, firefighting equipment, machine shop equipment, galley, and laundry equipment. 
  • Signals crane operator and/or hoists operators for precise placement of machinery and equipment.
  • Assists in the assembly and installation of machinery and equipment, using hand tools and power tools.
  • Communicates with crane operators via hand signals or voice radios and passes written and practical testing on crane signals.
  • Properly operates, lubricates, inspects, and stores chain falls.
  • Properly inspects, uses, and stores wire rope pennants and slings.
  • Determines the load weight and center gravity when rigging and relocating equipment.
  • Determines the correct rigging to be utilized on equipment for the specified task.
  • Possesses the knowledge of multipoint suspension techniques to maneuver loads and move objects from heights, on ships, and in noisy and dusty environments.
  • Possesses the knowledge of knot tying with the capabilities of tying knots and knowing their uses and functionalities such as bowlines, square knots, and hitches, etc.
  • Regularly carries a full tool bag and assists outside machinist in removing, dissembling, repairing, reassembling, and reinstalling ships equipment.
  • Must be able to work at heights of 20 ft. or higher.
  • Must be able to pass qualified rigger level one and level two written and practical exams as well as qualified signal person – Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 1926 Subpart CC written and practical exams.
  • Performs other duties as required by management.
