The Electrical Project Manager plans, directs, and coordinates activities of designated project to ensure that goals or objectives of project are accomplished within prescribed time frame and funding parameters. Reviews project proposal or plan to determine time frame, funding limitations, procedures for accomplishing project, staffing requirements, and allotment of available resources to various phases of project. Establishes work plan and staffing for each phase of project and arranges for recruitment or assignment of project personnel. Confers with project staff to outline workplan and to assign duties, responsibilities, and scope of authority. Directs and coordinates activities of project personnel to ensure project progresses on schedule and within prescribed budget. Confers with project personnel to provide technical advice and to resolve problems. Computes cost factors and prepares estimates for bids, selecting vendors or subcontractors, and determining cost effectiveness. Consults with clients, vendors, or other individuals to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Supervises and coordinates activities with project superintendent, foreman and subcontractors.
  • Directs and leads workers in electrical activities.
  • Examines and inspects work progress, equipment and construction sites to verify safety and ensure that specifications are met.
  • Estimates material and worker requirements to complete job.
  • Develop bid responses and estimates to procure work.
  • Reads specifications, such as blueprints and data, to determine electrical requirements.
  • Analyzes and resolves employee problems.
  • Trains workers in industrial/commercial electrical methods and operation of equipment.
  • Recommends measures to improve production methods and equipment performance to increase efficiency and safety.
  • Prepares project reports for management, client, or others.
  • Analyzes blueprints, specifications, proposals and other documentation to prepare time, cost, and labor estimates for projects.
  • Reviews data to determine material and labor requirements and prepares itemized lists.
  • Computes cost factors and prepares estimates.
  • Attends staff meetings and outside meetings as required.

NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

A Bachelor’s degree in construction management or comparable is preferred, however previous experience of 7-10 years in related field is acceptable. License as either a journeyman or master electrician is preferred. Requires a valid driver’s license. Strong leadership ability must be demonstrated. Knowledge of materials, methods, and the appropriate tools to construct objects and structures as well as perform excavations. Must have strong knowledge reading blueprints and understanding technical specifications. Must have strong time management and coordination skills. Position requires the ability to instruct, motivate, and direct others effectively and be able to identify the best people for the job. Other abilities/experience include:

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT

Familiarity with various kinds of heavy equipment used during excavations and site development including but not limited to loaders, backhoes, pavers, rollers and excavators. Other small tools and equipment are utilized such as jackhammers, power saws, and generators. Computers, bidding software, Microsoft Office software, e-mail, and other small office equipment such as fax machines, copiers, calculators and printers are used often.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This is a salaried position, generally Monday through Friday. There may be occasions when it will be necessary to work weekends or longer work hours. The position requires approximately 50% office work and 50% supervising the actual jobsites. A considerable amount of travel is done in a company vehicle. This is a high stress position due to meeting time schedules, customer deadlines and bid deadlines.
