Fern Creek Fire & EMS is Hiring an EMT (full-time) Near Louisville, KY

GENERAL PURPOSE: Performs a variety of administrative and technical work in emergency medical services, hazardous materials, emergency prevention, and public education activities.
RESPONSIBLE TO: Fire/EMS Chief, Deputy Chief, EMS Director, Command Staff, Captains and Sergeants
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • Maintain valid Kentucky Driver’s License
  • Completion of High School Diploma or GED
  • Must hold and maintain Kentucky Board of Emergency Medical Services certification for an EMT-Basic, as well as;
  • Must have current American Heart Association Basic Life Support Certification
  • Certificates of completion for ICS 100, 200, 700 and 800
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Knowledge of applicable laws and regulations
  • Knowledge of all equipment related to his/her job-related functions
  • Ability to utilize critical thinking abilities to quickly identify and treat medical emergencies

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Duties shall include but are not limited to the following:
  • Respond to all dispatched incidents and perform emergency medical duties. This includes knowing the dangerous building conditions; have the ability to perform suitably in a fire situation or hostile environment; have the ability to use safety procedures in an emergency operation in relation to protective equipment, team work, portable tools and equipment, riding or driving an apparatus, and hazardous materials incidents. In addition, it shall also include meeting the conditions of attachment #1, EMT/ Paramedic Job Requirements and Conditions.
  • Respond to all dispatched incidents and perform basic emergency medical duties.
  • Render pre-hospital emergency medical care according to the established medical protocols
  • Operate EMS vehicles to and from emergency scenes, transport medical patients to the hospital
  • Assist and coordinate with other emergency service agencies in rescue operations, motor vehicle accidents and other emergency situations
  • Perform a variety of emergency medical treatment services at the basic and advanced life support levels
  • Employ safe lifting and moving techniques
  • Answers telephone system and takes messages for distribution to appropriate personnel as needed.
  • Responsible for the daily inspection and cleaning of apparatus, tools and equipment.
  • Responsible for the daily inspection and cleaning of fire stations, interior and exterior.
  • Shall work as a team with other crewmembers and volunteers.
  • Shall perform other duties and special projects as assigned by the Chief.
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
This position performs various types of emergency medical services, is responsible for the preparation and maintenance of accurate records pertaining to equipment and apparatus maintenance of an EMS nature.
ADDITIONAL EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:
  • Cleans and maintains (minor maintenance) vehicles
  • Cleans and maintain fire station
  • Maintains records of vehicles, supplies, training and daily work (data entry)
  • Assists fire personnel at the fire scene with rehab duties
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
  • Assists the fire district with public relation activities
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE POSITION:
An EMT must display a high level of knowledge and expertise in emergency scene operations. She/he must be able to represent the department with a high degree of professionalism.

Subject to infectious disease, toxic waste, chemicals, fumes, odor, and other hazards.
The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and frequently lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works in outside weather conditions. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electric shock, extreme heat, and vibration.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate in the office setting, and loud at an emergency scene.
