POSITION TITLE: Academic Advisor Career Path (AACP)
DEPARTMENT: Center for Career & Academic Success
FLSA: Exempt
REPORTS TO: Associate Dean for Advising and Success Initiatives
JOB SUMMARY:
The Academic Advisor Career Path (AACP) is a full-time, twelve-month position which supports the exploration of career option early on the academic path,
supporting overall success, persistence, and retention of first-year, second-year, and special populations of
students. The AACP collaborates with the Schools to promote academic planning connected to the student’s major
and program requirements through highly responsive, holistic advisement focused on individual student needs and
helping students overcome barriers to success inside and outside the classroom.
PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
The following listing of primary job responsibilities indicates the general nature and level of work required in
this job. This is not designed to be a comprehensive listing of all the activities, duties, or responsibilities that
may be required in this job. Individuals assigned to this job may be asked to perform other duties as required.
  • Provide career exploration and academic advisement to incoming and currently enrolled students;
  • Assist with student registration process, orientation and other student and community activities;
  • Coordinate with other departments on job resources, necessary job skills, and experiential learning and
internship opportunities;
  • Onboard both first-year and transfer students into the culture of Felician University and Higher Education;
  • Monitor the progress of students in a caseload of 200-250 lower division students and others across the
institution as assigned;
  • Establish check-ins, schedule meetings, proactively advise, mentor, coach, and communicate
responding to students’ questions, concerns, and needs;
  • Help students assess their own performance and develop academic success plans;
  • Conduct individual and group sessions to build a sense of community and esprit de corps;
  • Assist students in developing self-efficacy by identifying and overcoming obstacles that may be impeding
academic success;
  • Work with students to learn strong time management, learning strategies, study, test taking, and organization
skills;
  • Monitor and track students’ progress through data collection, reporting, and analysis across multiple
populations;
  • Serve as guide for sustainable student success by connecting students to University and community resources.
  • Facilitate courses, as appropriate, in the 4-D Felician Experience;
  • Communicate with Veteran Student population regarding needs, success, and progress to degree to best triage
and coordinate support for Veteran students;
  • Ensure that all activities are conducted within the established guidelines of the Family Educational Rights and
Privacy Act (FERPA).
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master’s degree in education or closely related field required, doctorate preferred;
  • Two or more years of demonstrated professional experience in higher education student academic support
services and academic advising, mentoring, and/or success coaching;
  • Knowledge of college policies, procedures, practices, FERPA, Title IX, ADA, and other applicable laws
pertaining to employment and education;
  • Completion of Academic Advisor Training;
  • Demonstrated experience working with minority students, at-risk students, and students from a variety of
cultural/ethnic/religious backgrounds;
  • Computer and technological literacy skills and willingness to work with new software and other technologies.
  • An innovative and collaborative spirit;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills both in person and in varying media,
  • Thorough attention to detail and organizational skills, monitoring and responding to varying student needs as
they arise;
  • Willingness and ability to support and promote the Felician Franciscan mission and core values of the
University.
