Federal Way Public Schools is Hiring a Guest Maintenance and Grounds Technician Near Federal Way, WA

    This position performs a wide-variety of work involving maintenance, repair, and the safe and clean operation of the district's Nutrition Services kitchens including the Central Kitchen and school kitchens as well as Central Kitchen facilities and building systems.
    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. This list is meant to be representative, not exhaustive. Some incumbents may not perform all the duties listed while in other cases related duties may also be assigned.     • Maintain the Central Kitchen facility and building systems in a safe, clean, well-ordered manner, keeping all equipment and facilities in excellent food safe operating condition and ensuring fidelity of the design of the building and operating systems as constructed.
    • Utilize the district work order system to schedule, prioritize and record work. Account for time spent on projects on a routine basis.
    • Meet with Nutrition Services team to plan work other than emergency repairs. Keep supervisor informed of equipment and building status and make recommendations for preventative maintenance or safety issues that may require additional services or purchases.
    • Travel to school sites to repair equipment, or troubleshoot. Troubleshoot Central kitchen building system issues and make recommendations for repair. Supervise contracted equipment and Central Kitchen maintenance and repair services.
    • Perform minor repairs to warehouse racking system, following design load, anchoring and posted load limitations as designed for original building systems.
    • Maintain building heating, ventilation equipment, air conditioning, hoods, and exhaust systems and control systems. Perform preventative maintenance and/or supervise contracted services. Calibrate heating and cooling controls (computerized); adjust heating and cooling systems for proper operation.
    • Maintain indoor air quality preventing dust accumulation, microbial, mold, and fungal growth on all Central Kitchen air handling systems.
    • Maintain floor non-slip surfaces and or supervise contracted services for repair and maintenance. Perform all repairs, maintenance utilizing manufacturer specifications, preventative maintenance recommendations and use manuals of operation to repair to safe and reliable operation of equipment or building systems.
    • Monitor, perform maintenance and/or oversee contracted maintenance of a variety of doors and door hardware including manual and electric doors, entrance/exit exterior and interior electric doors, refrigeration doors and door hardware (including motorized) and overhead coiling/electrically operated dock doors. for proper adjustment and safe working condition
    • Monitor, perform maintenance and/or oversee contracted maintenance of Central kitchen refrigeration systems. Utilize skilled contractors for in depth maintenance of rack refrigeration systems.
    • Monitor, perform maintenance and/or oversee contracted maintenance of assembly tray line systems, denesters and depositors, rack rotating ovens, blast chillers, transport, warewashing, steamers, motorized steam jacketed kettles, cardboard bailing hydraulic press, and other equipment.
    • Monitor, perform maintenance and/or oversee contracted maintenance of cook/chill equipment including: metering air operated filling station, filling/packaging equipment, tumble cook/chill tank, cook/chill hoist rail systems, glycol heat exchanger, steam boiler, air cooled condensing equipment, kettle and tank control panels, and other equipment.
    • Monitor and inform utilities of Central Kitchen natural gas systems.
    • Monitor, perform maintenance and/or oversee contracted maintenance of rotating equipment for proper gear operations, belt and pulley adjustment, and condition
    • Monitor, perform maintenance and/or oversee contracted maintenance of gates and fencing.
    • Troubleshoot and repair simple mechanical/electrical/plumbing systems when malfunctions occur.
    • Lubricate equipment and change filters and belts on assorted mechanical and air handling equipment and systems in the building and at assigned Food Service sites, using food-safe chemicals and lubricants as required.
    • Report safety concerns to appropriate supervisors
    OTHER RESPONSIBLITIES:
    • Operate forklift and pallet jack to assist in offloading receiving and placement of deliveries and issuing of goods on an emergency basis.
    • Monitor, perform maintenance and/or oversee contracted maintenance of building generator (this keeps our refrigeration going in case of a power outage).
    • Maintain Central Kitchen shop equipment including: a variety of metal forming equipment such as brakes, shears, bending and cutting equipment, drill press, mini-mill, Tig/Mig and OxyAcetlyene welding equipment, grinders, buffers and other equipment including small tools. No tools may be borrowed for non-district use.
    • Plan and determine supplies and equipment necessary to complete assigned work.
    • Keep Central Kitchen machine shop organized, well maintained and secure.
    • Follow operations and maintenance manuals for equipment repairs.
    • Maintain building in cold weather or in power outages and emergencies.

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
    Education and Experience
    High school diploma or equivalent
    Journey level experience (certificate not required) in at least one of the following trades: mechanical, plumbing, refrigeration, heating and cooling
    Experience completing simple electrical repairs on foodservice equipment and minor repairs on Central Kitchen electrical systems
    One year of experience welding stainless steel, aluminum, and steel for food-safe applications
    One year of experience forming, cutting, and/or bending a variety of sheet metal products
    ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
    A history of positive evaluations and good recommendations
    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
    Two years restaurant equipment repair experience or equivalent
    One year of experience working on performance logic controls and equipment repairs
    CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT:
    Criminal background clearance
    Valid Washington state driver’s license with driving record that meets district requirements
    Work scheduled hours on a consistent basis
    Must wear district uniform for school and Central Kitchen repairs
    KNOWLEDGE OF:
    Electric and gas fired commercial heating systems; circulation pumps, valves, and controls; pneumatic, electronic, and direct digital control systems
    Wide variety of heating, ventilating, and air conditions systems
