Federal Screw Works is a domestic manufacturer of industrial component parts, specializing in serving the automobile industry. With over 100 years of experience, the company produces high-quality metal parts such as lock nuts, bolts, piston pins, studs, bushings, shafts, and more. These products are fabricated from metal rod and bar at multiple locations in Michigan and are sold to original equipment manufacturers for incorporation into their assemblies.

Role Description:

This is a full-time on-site role for a Metallurgist at Federal Screw Works located in Big Rapids, MI. The Metallurgist will be responsible for day-to-day tasks such as process control, metallurgy, extractive metallurgy, failure analysis, and leaching. They will apply their expertise in metallurgy to ensure the production of high-quality metal parts and conduct various analyses and tests to ensure product integrity and compliance with specifications.

About the Job:

Supervise Metallurgical Lab-Monito quality and perform metallurgical inspections of internal heat treatment processes which include a Neutral Hardening furnace along with Induction Hardeners – Monitor quality and perform metallurgical inspections of supplier incoming quality of raw material and heat treatment processes – Perform internal CQI-9 audits of heat treatment processing equipment and manage suppliers CQI’9’s – Provide support to all engineering projects and develop appropriate materials and ensure efficient and smooth operations.

Qualifications:

  • Strong knowledge and experience in process control, metallurgy, and extractive metallurgy
  • Proficiency in failure analysis and leaching
  • Experience in working with metal rod and bar
  • Ability to analyze and interpret test results
  • Attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Bachelor's degree in Metallurgy, Materials Science, or related field
  • Prior experience in the automobile industry is a plus
