Position: Supervisory Public Affairs Specialist (Press Secretary), GS-15

Working Hours: 9:00 am - 5:30 pm

Salary: GS-15 - $163,964.00 - $191,900.00

Full Performance level: GS 15

Mission Statement

The mission of the FBI is to protect the American People and uphold the Constitution of the United States.

Major Duties:

  • Supervise and direct work of subordinate staff who provide the full range of duties for Office of Public Affairs;
  • Advise executive management on high priority media matters, FBI Brand, and ways to resolve critical situations concerning public affairs responses to controversial and adversarial issues/challenges and engage with reporters, editors, and management of large-scale media outlets.
  • Participate in planning and policy formulation, establish and coordinate broad organizational objectives and strategies;
  • Lead extremely complex media relations including strategy development, story pitching, fact-checking, and results packaging;
  • Manage communications related to high visibility policy, litigation, and general FBI corporate issues;
  • Create proactive communication campaigns, develop communication strategies related to high visibility, litigation and general FBI corporate issues, and oversee the execution of programs that reduce the FBI's risk profile;
  • Gather input and information for the Director's public appearances and work with FBI executives on topics of considerable urgency or in response to fast-breaking national news relating to the FBI's missions and interests

  • Analytical: Experience in analytical and evaluative methods/techniques for assessing program development for executing and improving organizational effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Sensitivity: Seasoned organizational awareness to anticipate the effects of news and information media outlets in order to recognize and sensitively handle issues of historical or political significance, plan appropriate courses of action and respond to organizational needs.

Specialized Experience (SE): All qualifying experience MUST be provided within your RESUME to be considered.

GS-15: Applicant must possess at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-14 grade level. SE is defined as follows:

  • Mastery knowledge of public affairs principles, methods, approaches, practices and policies in order to provide executive advisory services regarding the Bureau's public affairs efforts.
  • Extensive knowledge of the national media industry and its business operations.

Preferred Experience:

  • Organizational Awareness - Expert knowledge of the mission, strategic objectives, operational priorities, history, organizational structures, policies and programs of the FBI to conduct programmatic analyses, oversee fulfillment of mission objectives and coordinate actions in response to special initiatives relating to the Bureau's public affairs.
