While the unit is made up of highly talented and technically minded team members, a technical background is not a requirement to lead the unit. The ideal candidate will have the skillset to achieve a high-functioning work environment with a geographically dispersed staff that is both highly productive and maintains strong morale, be able to adjust workflows and processes within the unit to achieve an optimal balance of workloads across the staff, understand and appreciate providing superior customer service and responsiveness, while also holding the staff accountable for deliverables.

  • Deployment, installation, operation and maintenance of the IT network infrastructure across the entire FBI to include LEGAT locations.
  • Oversee and manage Tier 3 Network Operations & Maintenance (O&M) support as the final escalation point for technical issues related to the optical transport network as well as the 800 plus Field Office, Resident Agency, and Legat networks worldwide.
  • Coordinate with pertinent intra-divisional management and Other Government Agencies (OGA) to provide technical responses to service outages and disruptions.

The NMU provides continuous (24x7x365) IT service to the Network Operations Center. The core hours are 8:00 am - 4:30 pm. The selectee will not be on call 24x7x365; however, there may be a limited number of occasions where the Unit Chief's expertise may be required after the core hours.

Your application will be evaluated and rated under the FBI’s Candidate Rating Procedures. Your resume and supporting documentation will be used to determine whether you meet the job qualifications listed in this announcement and will be compared to your responses to the online assessment questionnaire. High self-assessment in the vacancy questions that is not supported by information in your resume, and/or supporting documents may eliminate you from Most Competitive status.

If you are deemed Most Competitive, you will be referred to the selecting official for further consideration.

All applicants will be rated on the following Competencies: Please ensure you respond to each of the competencies. Failure to provide a response for each competency will preclude you from submitting your application.
