Position: Public Affairs Specialist,GS 11/12

Division: Office of Public Affairs

Unit: National Press Operations

Location: Washington, D.C

Working Hours: 8: 00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Salary:

GS11: $82,764.00 - $107,590.00

GS12: $99,200.00 - $128,956.00

Full Performance level: GS12

Number of Positions Available: One

Duration: Full Time/Permanent

Additional selections may be made from this announcement to fill positions within the same division when the position includes substantially the same duties, responsibilities, and qualifications.

Mission Statement:

Major Duties :

GS-11

  • Communicates effectively on routine, complex or sensitive topics both orally and in writing.
  • Reviews the requests for information, interviews, or access from media, entertainment industry, general public, and/or employees.
  • Prepares a variety of communications, including press releases, statements, talking points, guidance for field office Public Affairs Officers, and briefing materials for executives
  • Establishes and maintains effective relationships with the media as well as interagency partners.

GS-12 In addition to the above:

  • Reviews incoming requests for information, interviews, or access from media, entertainment industry, general public, and/or employees.
  • Provides suggestions and advice to executives at the FBI on methods to resolve issues and enable better communication.
  • Monitors the progress and evaluates the impact and effectiveness of communication strategies.


Qualifications and Evaluations

Specialized Experience (SE):

GS-11: Applicant must possess at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-9 grade level. SE is defined as follows:

  • Evaluating, planning, coordinating, and facilitating the dissemination of information relating to the FBI's programs, priorities, jurisdiction, activities, statistics, and mission to audiences.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective relationships with the national media, special interest groups.
  • Assisting with development and implementation of communications strategies.
  • Preparing a variety of written communications.
    In addition to the above:

GS- 12: Applicant must possess at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS- 11 grade level. SE is defined as follows:

  • Identifies audiences, determining the most effective media, and developing written materials.
  • Monitoring the progress and evaluating the impact and effectiveness of communications strategies.
  • Handling direct daily contacts by news reporters, authors, directors, researchers, interest groups, the general public, and/or employees.
