Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is Hiring an IT Specialist Near Vienna, VA

Position: IT Specialist, GS-12/13

Division: IT Infrastructure Division

Unit: Data Center Unit

Location: Vienna, VA - Terrorist Screening Center

Working Hours: 8:00am- 4:30pm (flexible)

Salary: GS-12 $94,199.00-$122,459.00

GS-13 $112,015.00-$145,617.00

Full Performance level: GS-14

Number of Positions Available: 1

Duration: Full Time/Permanent

Additional selections may be made from this announcement to fill positions within the same division when the position includes substantially the same duties, responsibilities, and qualifications.

Selected candidate may be offered a 25% recruitment incentive if eligible and will be required to sign a 2-year service agreement.

Mission Statement:

The mission of the FBI is to protect the American People and uphold the Constitution of the United States.

Major Duties:

  • Serve as an equipment installer/de-installer, senior specialist and/or project manager as required on Data Center projects. Provide advice and guidance to the FBI’s management regarding all technical issues which pertain to the planning, designing, developing, procuring, operating and maintaining of the FBI’s IT systems in Data Centers.
  • Provide program management and installation/de-installation support for the FBI’s Data Centers. Data Center ITS work is non-sedentary and ITS’ will be required to be on their feet for long intervals, regularly crawl, crouch, kneel, climb ladders, lift, and move up to 50 lbs.
  • Provide expertise necessary to solve complex problems that hinder the development or operation of the FBI’s IT system. Conduct research to obtain knowledge regarding state-of-the-art Data Center IT equipment and operating procedures.
  • Provide technical advice to executive level managers based on a developed expertise in the field of IT. Play a key role in formulating policies and developing strategies for Data Center IT systems throughout the FBI.
  • Analyze and determine the impact of automation efforts on current policies and operational practice to determine applicability and sufficiency under existing and evolving long-range automation strategy of the FBI.
  • Work to ensure the integration of IT programs and services: and develop solutions to integration/interoperability issues.
  • Provide Data Center Support after hours. Data Center normal hours of operation are 6a to 6p. ITS’ will be on a rotation schedule for after-hours support and must be willing to travel to other CEFs to provide support as requested.

Specialized Experience (SE):

GS-12: Applicant must possess at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS11- grade level. SE is defined as follows:

  • Experience assisting end-users in one or a variety of subject-matter fields in deciding which processes to automate.
  • Experience preforming studies to research, analyze, design, implement, and test IT systems for administrative, clerical, investigate, technical and scientific areas within the FBI.
  • Experience providing advice and/or guidance to various levels of personnel regarding administrative and technical matters related to IT programs and/or services.
  • Experience conveying information clearly and concisely orally and in written format.

GS-13: Applicant must possess at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS12- grade level. SE is defined as follows:

  • Experience in project management skills that include planning, concept development, design, scheduling, installation/construction, and operations and maintenance of systems and facilities.
  • Experience in leadership skills, decision making, developing and leading teams, delegating duties, providing effective communications, and achieving results.
  • Experience in budgeting and hands-on experience with acquisition instruments (i.e. Government Purchase Card, requisitions, etc.).
