Summary:

We are currently in search of a seasoned Shop Manager to oversee a team of highly proficient mechanics. The position entails examining, assessing, and conducting diverse maintenance and mechanical repairs on designated Heavy Construction equipment and/or facilities. This role is crucial for ensuring that both facilities and equipment are prepared for routine business operations and special events. The responsibilities also include managing documentation, such as warranties, repair records, licenses, inspections, service agreements, and contracts for various equipment pieces.

Responsibilities/Functions:

  • Meet with Equipment Director and Logistics Manager daily to ensure delivery schedules of expected materials and equipment, to various jobsites, are established and met.
  • Coordinate equipment repairs & services (owned & outsourced).
  • Dispatch the mechanics either from the shop or over the road mechanics.
  • Oversee and schedule 5-10 shop and field union mechanics.
  • Maintain repair lists and classify according to priority.
  • Interact with project team members daily to ensure the equipment repairs and services meet the needs required for the jobsite.
  • Possess a mechanical background and knowledge of heavy equipment and vehicle repairs.
  • Demonstrate the ability to troubleshoot field issues and collaborate with the Operations team and Mechanics on best solutions.
  • Produce work orders in Vista computer software to monitor hours, budgetary costs, maintenance, repairs, and damage.
  • Evaluate equipment damage.
  • Track rental and owned vehicle mileage and equipment hours in company software for service intervals and routine maintenance. Produce corresponding purchase orders for parts and maintain documentation.
  • Maintain strong relationships with vendors.
  • Coordinate fabrication and welding repairs, as necessary.
  • Review DVIR (Daily Visual Inspection Reports), prioritize the needs and remedy any discrepancies.
  • Communicate “Ready Line/Down for Repair Line” with project teams and ensure it is in line with scheduling needs.
  • Ensure equipment is in proper working order before sending it to jobsites.
  • Maintain a clean shop and oversee shop safety, including improving and enforcing shop safety procedures.
  • Supervise the appropriate operation of equipment and vehicles, along with ensuring their scheduled maintenance is conducted.
  • Order material, parts and equipment as required for the shop and ongoing jobs.
  • Review shop repair invoices for approval.
  • Collect and review employee time sheets and ensure appropriate coding.
  • Assist in acquisition and dismissal of equipment.
  • Purchase and maintain fuel at the shop for company vehicles and equipment.
  • Assist with loading and unloading trucks with heavy equipment and miscellaneous construction supplies, as needed.
  • Other duties as required.

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 8 hours per day. Overtime is not common but occasionally necessary. Expectation of working between 40-45 hours a week based on shop schedule and needs.

Essential skills and experience:

  • High school degree required. Associate or bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Two or more years of work experience as a Shop Manager, managing two or more employees and their scheduling required.
  • Knowledge of OSHA safety standards and requirements.
  • Leader mentality, with the ability to create accountability and to lead by example.
  • Team building, decision-making and people management skills required.
  • Ability to balance time between office work and shop oversite.
  • Strong mechanical and equipment background necessary.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills.
  • Proficiency in computer skills required.
  • Inventory management preferred.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, or crouch; and see and hear well (either naturally or with correction), stand; walk, (stand for long periods of time) handle, or feel; use arms and hands to reach for, handle and manipulate objects. The employee must frequently work or walk on uneven ground and is required to always wear steel toed boots. It is mandatory that the employee wear approved personal protective equipment. Employees will perform a variety of duties while exposed to outside elements, working at heights, and confined or enclosed spaces.
