Upkeep in equine areas around the barn. Turnout. Bringing in .Throw hay. Maintaining water buckets and troughs. Sweeping. JOB DUTIES: Supervision: Feed horses grain, hay and supplements as stipulated for each individual equine. Perform duties consistent with improving the quality of environment for equines and participants t. Provide feedback on equine behavior as needed. Provide observations on changes as it affects equine health. Horse Care/Daily Duties: Monitor animal care on daily basis. Relay veterinarian and farrier needs of animals to Program Director in a timely manner. Responsible for care and maintenance of all equine. Notify Program Manager when necessary. Assist with general maintenance of barn, horses, and Arena grounds Documentation and Staffing: Exhibit working knowledge of facility safety/emergency procedure
Establish and maintain good rapport with program participants, boarders, staff and the community
Assist in maintaining work area, supplies and materials.
Attend staff meeting and in-service training as scheduled.
Assist with fire and disaster drills, complete the necessary report.
Communicate effectively both in verbal and in written form
Additional Duties as Assigned:
Completion of additional duties may be required to meet the program needs.
Qualifications EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS:
Two to three years experience working with horses.
Six months experience working with persons with disabilities preferred.
Thorough working knowledge of appropriate animal care and first aid required. Stable experience a must.
Ability to be a contributing team member and work cooperatively with staff and agency personnel, families and community.
Sufficient physical stamina and mobility for lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling.
Ability to stay calm and not become angry when working with equines or participating individuals.
Must be willing to undertake any additional training required for position.
