OVERVIEW:

The Childcare Assistant will be responsible for supporting our Childcare Director in our 'little Village," the childcare arm of Family Village. The 'little Village" is the unlicensed childcare space of Family Village. This childcare program is unique in that parents are required to stay on site (thus maintaining full legal responsibility for their kids). We cater to kids of all ages (usually ranging from 6 months to ~3 years) and do not separate kids by age. Our drop-in style of childcare means that the number (and age) of kids in the space can vary considerably and is not entirely predictable. The Little Village makes everything else we offer at Family Village possible and our Childcare Staff are the beating heart of our co-op! Our vision for this position is that it will expand to include an employee-ownership stake in the business.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Ensure a safe, nurturing, mixed-age

• Provide a safe, nurturing, mixed-age play-based & screen-free environment for kids ages 6 months and older.

• Offer enriching activities (i.e. story time, crafts, music, dance, themed days, etc).

• Contact parents to provide diaper changes, bathroom breaks, snack times and/or snuggles, when needed.

• Address conflict and behavioral issues in ways that build respect and rapport to help kids develop age-appropriate social-emotional and communication skills

• Assist in the check-in and check-out process for children and parents/caregivers.

• Maintain current CPR and First Aid certifications.

• Support in the prepping and distribution of snacks

• Sanitize toys and furniture and uphold COVID-19 protocols

• Physical capacity to baby-wear, get up and down from the floor regularly and move (light) furniture.

• Respect various parenting styles and approaches and refrain from commenting on parenting choices or giving advice unless specifically asked for it.
