Family Guidance Centers is Hiring a Substance Abuse Counselor - Aurora Near Aurora, IL

Job Description:

****$2,000 SIGN ON BONUS****

1st $1,000.00: after 30 days of employment

2nd $1,000.00: after 6 months of employment

Essential Duties:

  • Individual, group, and family counseling, therapy, case management, and education. Counselors may meet with clients in individual, group, and family settings. Counselors may assist clients with a variety of problems but the primary focus of our agency is working with clients’ drug abuse problems.
  • Counselors may work with the drug-abuse clients on a variety of issues including vocational, cognitive, psychological, legal, social, cultural, life-style changes, behavioral changes as well as avoidance of their previous drug culture.
  • Counselors are responsible for intake assessments, initial treatment plans, as well as after-care and discharge planning. Treatment with clients will follow Federal as well as OASA regulations as well as treatment plans, goals, and objectives. Client treatment may include referrals to outside resources.
  • The client’s primary counselor will function as the focus point for client treatment at Family Guidance Centers. Most changes, modifications, and/or transitions in treatment for the clients will originate with the Counselor i.e. pick-up changes, etc. From the primary counselor, clients shall be referred to other staff, as needed, i.e. case managers, medical staff, administrative, etc.
  • Counselors need to intervene with clients and provide therapeutic services that lead the client to become and stay free of illicit substances or addicting substances and lead a better life.
  • Counseling staff may be assigned special caseloads of USPO Aftercare or Pretrial clients, BOP clients, pregnant/post-partum clients, group clients, recovery home clients, or women-only clients. Counseling staff may be assigned group only, or combination caseloads.
  • Initial treatment plans must be completed and signed by the Medical Director within 10 days of admission. 60-day treatment plan reviews must be completed, signed, and dated by all those involved prior to their due date. Charting of individual or group counseling notes is to be done within 10 hours of the session's occurrence, following appropriate format of date, time, and length of session and notes are to be signed. Session length should be in accordance with Family Guidance Center’s policy. Counselors will be responsible for indicating in their billing sheets all face-to-face personal contacts or no-shows for each client. Counselor will be responsible for keeping his/her client files updated with all reports, records, and counseling notes. These should be recorded daily in the clients' charts. Intake assessments and intake packets are to be completed and submitted within a couple of hours of the intake. Notes from groups that the counselor does are completed as part of the group time and submitted at the end of the group.

Other Duties:

  • Responsible for all paper work concerning the clients and record keeping as well as needed case management. Medical visits forms, medical forms for dose and pick-up changes, changes in medication cards, USPO MTR reports and monthly summaries, and program plans are to be kept up-to-date and completed by the counselor.
  • Counselors are responsible for follow-up and case consultation with USPO Aftercare, Pretrial, and Bureau of Prison Officials.
  • Counselors will be responsible for verifying records that are placed in their client files by medical staff, including verifying doctor’s dating and signing of reports and changes in client treatment.
  • Counselor responsibilities may include work at the front reception desk in case of an emergency. Counselors will participate in regular staff meetings and in-service training. Other duties as assigned.

Schedule: Monday - Friday (6:00a - 2:30p) with Saturday rotations

Experience and Skills:

Education and/or Experience: Bachelor’s degree and two-years of experience in a drug treatment program will be considered. Master’s degree with a clinical internship preferred.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: IAODAPCA Certified Alcohol and Other Drugs Counselor required within 2 years of hire date. State of Illinois Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor, Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Social Worker or Licensed Clinical Social Worker preferred.
