Job Title: Billing/Insurance Verification Specialist
Location: Oakbrook Terrace (not a remote position)
Department: Billing

Reports to: Billing Manager

Billing/Insurance Verification Specialist Responsibilities:

Confirm and validate patient insurance coverage by contacting insurance companies via phone, online portals, or other designated methods.
Gather and document accurate patient information, including demographic details and insurance policy specifics.
Communicate with patients to explain their insurance coverage, benefits, and any potential out-of-pocket expenses associated with medical services.
Collaborate with healthcare providers to obtain and update necessary information related to patient insurance.
Identify and address discrepancies or issues with insurance information, working proactively to resolve any challenges that may arise.
Record and maintain accurate insurance details in electronic health records and billing systems.
Adhere to all relevant healthcare regulations and guidelines, including HIPAA, in handling patient information.
Establish and maintain positive relationships with insurance company representatives, addressing inquiries and obtaining necessary information.

Billing/Insurance Verification Specialist Requirements:

High school diploma or equivalent. Additional coursework or certification in medical billing or insurance verification is a plus.
Prior experience in medical insurance verification or related roles is preferred.
Familiarity with insurance policies, procedures, and medical billing practices. Understanding of different insurance plans, including private, Medicaid, and Medicare.
Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex insurance information to patients and colleagues.
Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in recording and verifying insurance data.
Ability to identify and address insurance-related issues promptly and effectively.
Proficiency in using electronic health records (EHR) and insurance verification software.
A customer-oriented mindset with a focus on providing excellent service to patients and healthcare providers.
Ability to collaborate with a multidisciplinary team and work well in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
Willingness to adapt to changes in insurance policies, procedures, and technology.
