Family Connections Centers is Hiring a Teaching Assistant (K-5th grade) at non-profit FRC Near San Francisco, CA

Job Title: Teaching Assistant
Reports To: Lead Teacher
Location: San Francisco
Grade/Range: $24 - $25 hourly, part-time, non-exempt, M-F approximately 1:00 – 6:00 pm, plus employer paid health benefits for employees working a minimum of 24hrs/wk.

Position Summary

Family Connections is committed to nurturing each child’s social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development from early childhood to school-age. The teaching assistant provides support to educational programs that involve children and families with regular teacher and curriculum preparation support.

Essential Functions

  • Assist teachers with daily management and responsibilities of classroom
  • Be consistent with the goals and the philosophy of the program
  • Maintain familiarity with available teaching and learning materials, ensure materials are properly utilized, and design success-oriented activities
  • Maintain visual and auditory supervision of children at all times to ensure their safety in the classroom, on the playground, and on field trips
  • Ensure that environment is safe, clean, clutter-free, visually aesthetic, and functional
  • Interact with children in a positive, supportive, respectful, and open-minded manner
  • Develop and maintain a positive and confidential relationship with children and their parents/caregivers, including thorough communication about program and child’s progress
  • Follow mandatory reporting requirements for suspicion of child abuse or neglect
  • Follow requirements for reporting and record-keeping of injuries or accidents
  • Practice and ensure professional standards of communications within classroom, agency, and with community partners
  • Respond promptly and courteously to parent/caregiver concerns and immediately notify lead teacher/supervisor
  • Participate in service trainings and professional development workshops
  • Perform other duties and ad hoc projects as needed or requested by supervisor

Qualifications

  • 6 completed units of ECE and enrolled in at least 2 semester units at an educational program
  • At least one year of teaching experience
  • Experience working effectively with young children, families, and staff of diverse backgrounds
  • Bilingual in Cantonese and English or Spanish and English strongly preferred
  • Collaborative and self-directed, with the ability to work well in teams and independently
  • Confident and respectful classroom management skills and approach
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, including listening skills
  • Professional ethics of confidentiality, discretion, and good judgment
  • LivesScan Clearance and physical health/TB clearance required to be maintained throughout employment

COVID Requirements

All employees are expected to be fully vaccinated or have plans on getting fully vaccinated before the start of their employment. Full vaccination also includes COVID-19 booster shots.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional classroom and office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day. The employee must frequently lift and/or move items over 25 pounds and on occasion may require lifting/carrying a child or object up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
