About Families in Action for Quality Education 

The Families in Action for Quality Education coalition (FIA Oakland) unites 40 district and charter school communities representing 16,500 students to build leadership, influence and political power to reposition families, youth and stakeholders as influential school and city-wide leaders. In addition to power building, FIA has a robust and creative approach to new media, hosting podcasts, awards shows and digital media that amplifies our mission. Since 2019 FIA has trained over 500 parent and youth leaders who lead impactful campaigns at the school and city level to advance policy and practice changes. FIA has become a force to be reckoned with in Oakland public education.

Key Responsibilities

In this consulting role, you will work closely with the CEO the lead short term projects that include:

  • Ability to foster strong communication and collaboration with multiple stakeholders: CEO, organizers, school leaders, community partners and family leaders. 

  • Manage projects with systems and strategic thinking; center racial equity in a context of dynamic school organizations and education landscape.

  • Ability to set clear project goals, timeline and successfully achieve project 

  • Excellent project management skills; utilize monday.com for intra-team communication and accountability. 

Special Project Scope Examples

  • Codify FIA’s systems for school partnerships including roles, goal development with school and CBO leaders, capacity building and communication. Conduct an analysis of current year partnerships. 

  • Codify FIA’s family leadership development and organizing model. Synthesize the best practices and “secret sauce” so that the model can be more easily scaled and replicated.

Your Resources:

  • You will work directly with the CEO and collaborate with the FIA team.

Compensation

We offer a competitive project fee reflective of scope of work, deliverables and timeline.

Your Qualifications

Required:

  • Successful track record as a school leader who leveraged school improvement science and achieved excellent and equitable student outcomes.

  • 5 years of school leadership experience including family partnership or community organizing, education and strategy, preferable in low-income communities of color. 

  • Strong strategic thinking skills and an ability to analyze policies, institutions, implementation and qualitative/quantitative data with an equity lens.

  • Academic or experiential knowledge in building political power in low-income and multilingual communities of color

  • Values and thrives in working with racially diverse teams, and is aligned with our commitment to fostering racial equity, diversity and inclusion.

  • Has strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to create positive, trusting, professional relationships with diverse colleagues.

  • Highly-organized and able to manage complex projects and deadlines.

  • Strong ability to write and speak clearly and persuasively to diverse audiences, including public speaking in small and large group settings.
