Summary:

The surgery aid will perform various patient care activities and related non-professional services in caring for the personal needs and comforts of patients, under the direct supervision and direction of the RN, Team leader, Manager or Administrator. Must be accountable to the policies and procedures of the organization.

Responsibilities:

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Demonstrates ability to appropriately modify approach and procedures to meet needs of age/diversity of population served for the following age groups:

Neonate (birth � 28 days)

Infant (29 days � less than 1 year)

Pediatric/Child (1 year � 12 years)

Adolescent (12 years � 18 years)

Adult (18 years � 65 years)

Geriatric (over 65 years)

• Incorporates cultural considerations in the provisions of care.
• Knowledge of growth and developmental stages.
• Considers life changes/effects on health beliefs and behaviors.
• Provides necessary safety measures.
• Provides information and involves family/caregiver in decision making.

1. Assembles the necessary supplies needed for each surgical procedure.
2. Transfers patients to surgery in a safe manner.
3. Properly cleans operating rooms between surgical procedures.
4. Assists with all other OR and facility wide housekeeping duties throughout day and end of day
5. Restocks and orders supplies.
6. Restocks anesthesia machines.
7. Assists RN as directed.
8. Transports specimens to lab
9. Properly decontaminates and sterilizes endoscopes.
10. Properly maintains all required logbooks relative to scope cleaning according to documentation requirements.
11. Maintains a safe and therapeutic patient environment.
12. Advocates for patient's needs through communication and the interdisciplinary planning process.

Hours will be dependent on patient census and workload. Ability and willingness to work a flexible schedule, to include after-hours and weekends as necessary.
