This position will be working 56 hours every two weeks on the rotating day/evening shift, and every third weekend.
Responsibilities/Job Description:The Pediatric Vascular Access RN is responsible for the assessment, planning, delivery, and evaluation of nursing care for all assigned patient populations. The RN coordinates care with members of the health care team and delegates responsibilities to others as appropriate.
- Assesses patient for proper vascular access placement, in pediatric patients and according to UMMC, Fairview selection criteria
- Capable of placing complex peripheral IV lines in all patient populations.
- Competent in use of Ultrasound and other technologies for IV placement
- Competent in assessment and treatment of VAD sites for all complications i.e.:
- Infiltration
- Phlebitis
- Infection
- Extravasation
- Thrombosis
- Precipitates
- Catheter malfunctions
- Mal-positioned catheters
- Occlusions
- Can perform and act as consultant to other health care team members in coordinating nursing interventions regarding the placement, maintenance and troubleshooting of all VADs.
- Use of tPa to de-clot CVCs
- Lab draws from CVCs
- CVC dressing changes
- Port a Cath access, de-access, and trouble shooting
- Discontinuation of PICC lines
Required:
Current MN RN licensure
BLS for healthcare providers
Ultrasound IV experience
Preferred:
BSN or higher nursing degree
Pediatric and NICU experience
PICC Placement experience
