Fairplex is Hiring a Fixed Asset Accountant Near Pomona, CA

The Fixed Asset Accountant at Fairplex plays a critical role in managing, verifying, and maintaining the organization's fixed assets. Reporting directly to the Controller, this position is responsible for accurately recording, tracking, and reporting on the financial aspects of fixed assets, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and organizational policies. This position will also assist with other accounting projects, duties, and reporting as needed and assigned by the Controller.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Asset Management:

* Maintain a comprehensive fixed asset list within the fixed asset software system, record all acquisitions, disposals, and transfers accurately

* Work in conjunction with the facilities team in locating and tagging fixed assets

* Conduct physical asset verifications on a cycle count cadence and reconcile findings with financial records

* Develop and maintain policies and procedures for fixed assets and capital purchases

* Ensure advance approval policies and procedures for capital purchases, including construction in process, are followed to ensure complete and accurate compliance with Company policies

Depreciation and Amortization:

* Calculate and record monthly depreciation and amortization expenses in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Internal Revenue Service (IRS) guidelines

* Ensure depreciation and amortization schedules are up to date and align with organizational policies

Financial Reporting:

* Prepare and provide fixed asset reports and analysis for the Controller, as well as for internal and external stakeholders

* Collaborate with the Assistant Controller and Controller to support the preparation of financial statements

* Help determine by reaching out to departments with construction in process (CIP) projects has been finalized to capitalize and start depreciating

* Prepare reports and analysis for auditors

Compliance:

* Ensure compliance with tax and accounting regulations regarding fixed assets

* Stay informed about changes in accounting standards and adapt practices accordingly

Capital Budgeting:

* Assist in the development of capital budgets and provide input on the fiscal impact of proposed capital expenditures

Documentation and Records:

* Maintain organized and comprehensive records for all fixed assets, including purchase documentation, depreciation calculations, and disposal records

Process Improvement:

* Identify opportunities for process improvements related to fixed asset accounting, recommend changes, and implement approved solutions

Qualifications

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES

* Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or related field

* Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation preferred

* Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in fixed asset accounting or a related field in an organization with multiple entities and extensive fixed assets

* Strong knowledge of accounting principles and GAAP

* Proficiency in financial software and Excel applications

* Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills

* Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities

* Effective communication and interpersonal skills

* Team player with the ability to collaborate across departments

* Highly organized and detail oriented

* Adaptable and open to process improvements

* Ability to work in a challenging environment

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OF JOB

* Must have a valid California driving license and a clean driving record

* Must have reliable transportation

* Must be able to work overtime when required

* Must be able to lift 25 pounds

* Must be able to sit at a computer for long periods of time

* Must be able to move around the grounds, including climbing up and down stairs and retrieving documents in storage

* Must be able to communicate over the telephone

* Must be able to access, input, and retrieve data using the computer

* Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including days, evenings, holidays, and weekends
