Fairfield ISD is seeking applications for the position of bus mechanic. This position is for 12 months (260 days) per year. The district offers competitive wages and benefits. The position is non-exempt, and overtime is frequently available or required.

Job Title: Bus Mechanic

Reports to: Director of Transportation

Primary Purpose: Perform mechanical repairs with minimal supervision to ensure proper performance and safety of district vehicles. Perform assigned work following established policies and procedures.

Qualifications:

* Valid Texas commercial driver's licence (Class B) with (S) school and (P) passenger endorsements

* Prefer ASE and/or TASBT Certification

* Certified Texas Vehicle Safety Inspector

* Acceptable driving record

* Acceptable background check and fingerprinting

Experience:

* Knowledge and experience in fleet repair and maintenance (gasoline and diesel)

* Knowledge and experience in repairing standard and automatic transmissions

* Knowledge and experience in troubleshooting and repair of large vehicle electrical systems

* Knowledge and experience in brake repairs (air and hydraulic)

Special Knowledge / Skills

* Ability to pass US DOT alcohol and drug test

* Ability to pass annual physical examination

* Ability to pass required bus driver safety training and obtain certificate

* Ability to repair and maintain buses and other vehicles in the district fleet.

Major Duties / Responsibilities

* Perform mechanical repairs, preventative maintenance, diagnostics and inspections on all district vehicles in timely and efficient manner with mimimal supervision.

* Safely operate buses and other vehicles as needed.

* Work irregular hours as needed.

* Provide roadside assistance / towing when necessary

* Maintain a positive working relationship with district personnel.
