The Fairfax County Department of Public Works and Environmental Services (DPWES) seeks a skilled Mason to perform concrete and masonry tasks relating to stormwater maintenance and construction operations.
Participates in the work of a crew engaged in a variety of maintenance and construction activities. Performs a variety of skilled masonry work and associated tasks. Lays brick, concrete block, and cinder block for walls and parges for waterproofing. Constructs storm drainage systems of pipes, manholes and other structures. Places, smoothes, and finishes concrete cement surfaces. Performs daily vehicle inspection and completes operational check list. Estimates the amount of material necessary for each job. Engages in manual labor as required. Operates various vehicles and equipment, such as the crew van, single-axle dump truck, small trailer, flatbed truck, utility bucket truck, snowplow and spreader truck. Loads and unloads mowing equipment from trailers. Operates snow blower and self-propelled riding mower. Participate in and lead the work crew engaged in a variety of sewer maintenance and heavy construction activities; perform a variety of masonry work and associated tasks. Lay brick, block and parge sewer structures, pipes, walls and foundations. Operate various vehicles and equipment including, but not limited to: single-axle dump truck and small trailer, excavator, skid steer, flat-bed truck, pick-up truck snow plow and spreader. Engage in routine manual labor as: digging; loading; snow shoveling; grass cutting; lifting; pushing; pulling and other heavy physical work, etc. Read and interpret engineering plans for utility locations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or GED issued by a state department of education, and four years of masonry or concrete construction experience to include maintenance, blue print reading and building code requirements.
