JOB OVERVIEW

The Safety Manager is responsible for continuous monitoring, auditing, managing, enhancing, and adapting safety procedures within the operation to ensure compliance by promoting a safe work environment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following, but are not limited to:

  • Conducts safety meetings, audits, and inspections to ensure safety protocols are being followed by all staff members, and regularly audits each site to ensure that process is being adhered to
  • Provides strategic leadership, directs, coaches, and develops staff to achieve performance goals and company objectives
  • Conducts safety audits of buildings, facilities, tools and equipment
  • Analyze incident reports, metrics, and injury case studies to institute changes that lead to a safer environment
  • Support, plan, and implement safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal rules and regulations including Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Department of Transportation (DOT)
  • Plans and implements training for employees in worksite safety practices
  • Maintains safety files and records according to needed yearly and semi-annual audit programs
  • Performs safety surveys and inspections, prepares written reports of findings and recommendations for corrective or preventive measures where indicated, and follows up to ensure measures have been implemented
  • Responsible for guiding reports according to OSHA and DOT among all other regulatory agencies
  • Guarantees that all work is performed in accordance with approved manuals, internal policies and procedures, contract documents, and good engineering practices
  • Participates in team meetings and provides regular on-site project presence
  • Maintains corporate emergency management procedures
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION, LICENSE, and/or CERTIFICATION

  • Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Health, Engineering, or equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
  • Certified with OSHA

EXPERIENCE and/or KNOWLEDGE

  • Risk assessment/management experience
  • Administrative policies and procedures knowledge
  • Must have 4 years of related experience and/or training in Safety Management and Compliance
  • knowledge of safety, security, and compliance-related regulatory requirements
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and web-based applications

  • Ability to communicate in English and Spanish
  • Conceptual planning ability
  • Conflict management and problem-solving skills
  • Communication, meeting, and presentation skills
  • Excellent leadership and people management skills
  • Demonstrates excellent safety behavior and attitude, follows regulatory practices and rules, recognizes and Promotes hazard reporting, and ensures effective safety reporting
  • Models and promotes an organizational culture that fosters safety practices through effective leadership
  • Requires flexibility to work additional hours beyond the regular shift, on short notice, and as needed during irregular operations

TRAVEL

Must be able to travel to different locations within the area on a regular basis

Physical Demands

Job duties include but are not limited to lifting, pulling, pushing, grasping, twisting (including wrists), reaching below and overhead, standing for long periods, squatting, bending, stooping, kneeling, and climbing. Warehouse climate conditions are subject to change without notice.
At times may work with or near moving mechanical parts (i.e.: cooler, dock equipment), in high precarious places (i.e. ladder work), and cold/hot climate conditions. Ability to work in moderate and loud noise environments including, but not limited to: aircraft noises, machinery, computers, paging, telephones, human voices, sound system, and machinery.

The physical demands described here are those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions. This position requires the incumbent to be able to speak and be understood, hear, and comprehend language, stand for long periods of time, be able to lift approximately 40 pounds, be able to relocate in the event of an emergency, and have a neat and professional appearance.
