Mission Asset Fund is Hiring a Communications Manager Near San Francisco, CA

The opportunity:
MAF is hiring a communications manager to execute strategies for developing and strengthening relationships with donors, supporters, other nonprofit leaders, and policymakers. This manager will be part of a communications and marketing team that works to advance MAF's mission, helping people become visible, active, and successful in their financial lives. The communications manager will produce content that shares MAF's lessons learned, insights, and impact with various stakeholders. They will also support teams across the organization to articulate and communicate their work as part of the overall mission. The manager will produce communication campaigns across various media, including webinars, blogs, newsletters, and audio and video stories.
The Communications Manager will work across the organization to design, lead, and implement communications strategies that engage key audiences, including funders, researchers, policymakers, partners, government, and the general public. The ideal candidate is an avid writer with experience communicating thoughtfully and persuasively about issues affecting low-income and immigrant communities.

Reports to : Communications and Marketing Director
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Communications strategy and content creation (75%):
  • Develop and execute engaging communication campaigns that raise awareness of MAF's programs and strengthen MAF's role as a thought leader in the fields of asset and credit building, community development, immigrant rights, and fintech.
  • Coordinate across teams to uplift our work and learnings, draft GAME plans, and ensure that projects and campaigns are well-coordinated, efficient, and on track for timely completion.
  • Engage ethically and respectfully with MAF clients to share their stories from a strengths-based perspective. Coordinate audio and/or video contractors in storytelling projects.
  • Drive social media strategy framing MAF as an influencer in key policy areas affecting low-income, people of color, and immigrant communities. On a day-to-day basis, maintain, curate, and publish content that reflects and influences broader conversations on financial equity, credit building, and other issues.
  • Engage media contacts with our work, coordinate media appearances, and monitor media coverage with the goal of using media coverage as an organizational asset.
  • Manage MAF's presence at conferences and speaking engagements by proactively identifying and submitting speaking proposals and supporting other MAFistas with presentations and talking points.
  • Manage and produce in-person events and webinars that further the organization's goals.
  • Support philanthropy team with messaging and communication strategy for funder engagement.
  • Support other teams as a communications advisor, participating in peer review, brainstorming, and content development.
Communications management (20%):
  • Manage the organization's communications calendar and processes. Keep the calendar organized and updated to reflect project tasks, timelines, milestones, goals, and successes.
  • Ensure consistent implementation of the organization's brand across all levels, including adherence to the style guide.
  • Manage contact records for stakeholder audiences, ensuring our email and phone records are up-to-date and email campaigns have high deliverability.
  • Work with the team to build a system for analyzing communication metrics. Present these insights to the team regularly to ensure we use data to inform strategy and create effective communications.
  • Periodically audit published materials across different channels to ensure accuracy, quality, etc.
General Operations (5%)
  • Collaborate with staff in making strategic decisions affecting MAF's future.
  • Engage in professional development opportunities, participating in trainings and conferences provided to staff.
  • Participate in staff meetings, attend events, and otherwise contribute to strengthening the roots within our community.

Desired Skills & Experience:
  • B.A. or equivalent, plus at least 5 years in communications/marketing for a nonprofit focused on credit building, community development, financial equity, and immigration policy.
  • Experience working for social change in underserved communities. Conversant in asset building, immigration, public policy, and/or other social justice issues.
  • Project management skills and relentless attention to detail: you can see the big picture and all its multiple moving parts.
  • Strong English & Spanish language writing and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with CRMs (Salesforce preferred), marketing automation systems, and Canva.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
  • This is a full-time position with an anticipated salary range of $90,000-95,000. Salary will be dependent on experience.
