Exploration School is Hiring an Overnight Summer Nurse Near Bronxville, NY

Summer Nurse
EXPLO Intermediate, Bronxville, New York
June 29, 2024 - August 9, 2024
We are seeking caring, detail-oriented nurses to keep our staff and students healthy and safe at our summer programs.
About Us
At EXPLO, our engine is curiosity. We drive joyful learning through investigation, collaboration, and play.
We’re a mission-driven, educational non-profit with more than 85,000 student alumni who hail from 90 countries. We offer day and residential summer programs for clever and curious students in grades 4 through 12 on three of the most beautiful college campuses on the East Coast of the U.S. For many, EXPLO is a life-changing experience. Our students sometimes describe it as the place where they feel like the truest version of themselves. We know you’ll transform the lives of our students. We hope the experience will transform yours, too.
The Opportunity
Our team of nurses works with a population of students from around the United States and the world, as well as the staff members that live and work on campus. Nurses communicate with caregivers of students regarding their student’s wellbeing, consult with local pediatricians, and distribute daily medications to students.
Most registered nurse candidates should expect to work shifts totaling 30-45 hours per week, which may include some weekends and occasional overnights. We also have the option to hire nurses to work primarily evenings and weekends. Most shifts overlap so you can expect to regularly work alongside other registered nurses. We will schedule your hours before the summer and take your preferences into account.
Nursing Responsibilities
  • Provide medical care to students and staff at the Program
  • Maintain medical records in accordance with EXPLO’s standard practices and applicable school/camp regulations
  • Maintain electronic logs of student interactions in accordance with EXPLO’s standard practices and applicable regulations
  • Communicate in a timely and professional fashion with caregivers regarding student health issues and medical care
  • Communicate with local medical facilities and personnel to which students are referred to ensure adequate information exchange and care of students
  • Work closely with the Office of Student Life to exchange necessary information about student health issues and communications with caregivers
  • Work closely with all Summer Program offices to ensure that medications are properly administered to all students
  • Work closely with all Summer Program offices to ensure that medications are properly packed for off-campus student field trips
  • Travel quickly as needed to injured or ill students on campus with a travel medical bag to assess and triage students who are unable to walk to the Health Office
  • Provide a healthy, safe, and welcoming Health Office environment for Summer Program students
  • Provide supervision to students who may be required to stay overnight in the Health Office due to health or disciplinary reasons
Nurses must be able to lift at least 15-20 pounds and be able to move and treat students quickly in an emergency if necessary.
About You
You’ve got:
  • A current nursing certification (Registered nurse, licensed practice nurse, APRN, licensed vocational nurse, certified school nurse, certified nurse assistant, or nurse practitioner) in the state of the program
  • At least one year of professional registered nursing (RN, NP) experience
  • The ability to commute to and from the program during the summer
Ideally, you’ve also got:
  • Experience working with students in a camp or school setting
Compensation Benefits
This is a seven week, seasonal position. Remote training for this role may begin as early as January 2024. In person training begins in mid-June 2024. Compensation for this role starts at $43/hour and scales based on experience.
Other benefits include:
  • All meals while on campus
  • Staff-only affinity spaces and other professional support and development opportunities
  • Best in the industry staff to student ratios
