Job description

Busy optometric practice is looking for a professional, organized and energetic new staff member. As the first point of contact for our company, you will play a crucial role in providing excellent customer service and creating a positive impression for our patients. The ideal candidate is dependable, willing to cross train, have great customer service skills and be a team player with a "can do" attitude. No experience is necessary but must be eager to learn. The position is Monday through Thursday, no weekends with Fridays off (approximately 30 hrs/week). No insurance benefits but paid vacations and holidays plus 401K available with match.

The front desk receptionist provides a variety of patient and customer service related activities within the front office/reception area. These activities include but are not limited to: greeting patients, checking patients in and out, updating patient information, verification of patient insurance eligibility/benefits and patient financial responsibility, collecting copays/coinsurance/account balances, scheduling initial and return appointments, scheduling outside diagnostic testing, balancing money collected and cash box at end of the day, filing and maintaining paper medical records as needed, and serving as the liaison between the patient and medical support staff.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS include but not limited to the following:

  • Greet patients and visitors in a prompt, courteous and helpful manner
  • Perform patient check-in
  • Send pre-registration forms to new patients, prior to their appointments
  • Obtain or verify and enter complete and accurate patient demographic data and insurance information in the computer
  • Collect co-pay, deductible, coinsurance or account balance from the patient, print the patient a receipt and post payment in practice management software
  • Perform patient check-out
  • Schedule follow-up appointments with internal, consulting, or referring doctors
  • Schedule outside diagnostic testing
  • Fax reports to referring or consulting doctors
  • Answer incoming phone calls, triage and route call in accordance with office policies
  • Manage incoming physical and electronic correspondence
  • Call no-show patients in order to reschedule and/or find out why the patient missed their appointment
  • Note all no-shows and cancellations in the computer prior to the end of day and relay information to the doctor
  • Manage automated and manual calls and reminders for patient appointment times
  • Check email for patient communication
  • Runs daily schedule and reviews patient information
  • Balances daily cash reconciliation log and cash box at the end of the day, delivers daily deposit to the bank
  • Maintains work area and patient waiting area in a neat and orderly manner
  • Fosters respect for patient privacy by maintaining confidentiality in all aspects of work
  • Filing and pulling charts for daily patients and verifying insurance
  • Maintain knowledge of and follow policies, procedures, Code of Conduct, and all Federal and state rules and regulations related to the position.

  • Ability to maintain positive attitude and talk confidently about patient results
  • Ability to work well under pressure and accept additional assignments willingly
  • Ability to work flexible hours as needed to accommodate workload
  • Ability to concentrate, think, and learn
  • Ability to hear, see, sit, kneel, crouch, reach, lift, push and pull

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

High School diploma or equivalent is required; a minimum of one (1) year experience in a medical office setting is preferred; medical insurance knowledge is also preferred.

Pay: From $12.00 per hour
