JOB SUMMARY:
This dynamic human resource role is a key stakeholder to multiple mill Superintendents, General Supervisors, and all first-line leaders, as such, requires exceptional collaboration skills and a proven ability to build strong productive relationships across the business. A results-driven labor-management professional who has a solid grasp of collective bargaining, contract administration, grievance, and negotiation processes. This position provides advice, counsel, and coaching on labor relations, employment law, performance management, investigations, and conflict resolution.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Administer a range of Labor Relations (LR) activities including collective agreement administration, grievance and issue management, collective bargaining, union/management relations, performance management, and conflict resolution processes (20%)
  • Conduct investigations, summarize findings, recommend, and implement solutions related to formal complaints consistent with procedural requirements in the collective agreement and relevant employment legislation (20%)
  • Provide advice and direction to all levels of management on the interpretation, application, and administration of collective agreements, legislation, and company policies. Oversee and ensure consistent application (15%)
  • Function as a confidential advisor in sensitive matters, including conflict resolution, problem-solving, investigations, training, team building, facilitating change, and advancing effective change management practices (15%)
  • Establish and maintain positive working relationships with union representatives, employees, and members of management (10%)
  • Maintain appropriate records and implement LR processes that limit liability and support the effectiveness of organizational objectives (5%)
  • Manage and investigate all 3rd party charges, as well as EEO and policy compliance (5%)
  • Influence cultural change by demonstrating company values and reinforcing a collaborative work environment (5%)
  • Assist in the preparation of arbitration cases and contract negotiations (5%)
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in human resources, management, or a related field, supplemented by a specialized program or courses in labor relations or equivalent.
  • 5 years of experience in a Human Resources role with a focus on labor relations
  • 3 years of Human Resources experience in manufacturing
  • Microsoft – Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint
  • High attention to detail and organization while managing competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Current working knowledge of legislation, labor law, employment law, human rights law, and related areas
  • Well-developed problem-solving abilities, dispute/grievance resolution skills along with the demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across multiple business groups
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Customer-focused with a high level of professionalism, confidentiality, discretion, and initiative
  • Pro-active professional with effective consultative skills, able to forge and maintain close relationships. The candidate of choice will exhibit a collaborative approach to solving labor disputes.

COMPENSATION:
  • $75,000 – $100,000
