Responsibilities

Responsibilities 

The Veterinary Technician is responsible for assisting Veterinarians in the care of animals. Some duties include but are not limited to:

  • Effectively communicate with, advise, and educate clients/pet owners to hospital guidelines.
  • Perform initial evaluation of the pet’s condition, take vitals (TPR), record patient history and maintain proper medical records.
  • Collect specimens & perform laboratory procedures as requested by the veterinarian.
  • Assist in diagnostic, medical, and surgical procedures.
  • Prepare patients, instruments, and equipment for surgical procedures while utilizing knowledge of proper sterile field requirements.
  • Perform anesthetic monitoring and recovery.
  • Accurately prepare and dispense medications as directed by the doctor.
  • Monitor hospitalized pets and perform treatments as directed by the doctor.

Qualifications

 Ideal candidate:

  • Preferred applicants should be licensed or able to sit for the VTNE (Veterinary Technician National Exam) within the next 12 months. This is not a requirement.
  • Must have computer skills, including a working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
