Eustis Engineering is Hiring a CMT Technician I Near Baton Rouge, LA

Summary

The CMT Technician I is an entry level position. This technician will perform simple and common field testing tasks. This CMT Technician inspects materials and observes activities associated with construction of streets, bridges, buildings, levees, etc., to ensure the procedures and materials comply with plans and specifications by performing the following duties.

The CMT Technician I works under the supervision of a CMT Technician III. He/she will remain under the CMT Technician III’s supervision and training for a minimum of 12 months before being considered for elevation to a CMT Technician II position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned including working in our drilling department or soils laboratory, or for Eustis Engineering’s other offices.

  • Performs basic laboratory and field tests, i.e., collects samples using proper techniques in accordance with ASTM, ACI, AASHTO, LaDOTD, MDOT, TXDOT, and other industrial standards;
  • Conducts field tests with a degree of accuracy required by the above regulatory organizations, i.e., concrete slump, air content, unit weight, etc.;
  • Measures distances to construction activities;
  • Observes work in progress to ensure that procedures followed and materials used conform to specifications;
  • Records quantities of materials received or used during specified periods.
  • Maintains daily log of construction and inspection activities in proper report format;
  • Prepares sketches of construction activities to accompany field reports;
  • Uses appropriate personal protective equipment which may include hard hat, safety vest, safety shoes, face shield/covering;
  • Maintains a valid driver’s license and drives a motor vehicle in the course of collecting samples, performing field tests, and conducting inspections;
  • Communicates orally and in writing with supervisor and staff members.

This position requires overtime, travel, and possible out-of-town assignments. This individual will also be required to undergo first aid and various levels/types of safety training.

Education and/or Experience

The CMT Technician I must possess a high school diploma or general education degree (GED).

Language Skills

The CMT Technician I must have the ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. He/she must be able to write routine reports and correspondence. He/she must also be able to speak effectively with clients or employees of various organizations.

Mathematical Skills

The CMT Technician I must have the ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. He/she must be able to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability

The CMT Technician I must have the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. He/she must be able to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual should be willing to learn Agile Frameworks’ MetaField® Project Management software.

An annual physical for medical monitoring may also be required. A pre-employment drug and alcohol screening and background check are required.
