Essex North Shore Agricultural and Technical School District is Hiring a Bus Mechanic Near Danvers, MA

Essex North Shore is seeking a Bus Mechanic to join the Facilities, Farm and Grounds Department, on or about July 1, 2024. The Bus Mechanic plays an integral role and works closely with two other mechanics to maintain a fleet of over 35 diesel buses. 

Full time, benefit eligible position (Health, Dental, Life, Pension, etc.)

Satisfactory CORI, SORI and SAFIS required. 

This position is part of the collective bargaining agreement (CBA) with AFSCME Local 245. The CBA can be accessed on the District's website.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Bus Mechanic

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum requirement is a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum five (5) years’ experience in vehicle mechanics.
  • Must possess a Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with passenger and school bus endorsements. (Endorsements are not required/willing to train)
  • Training in automotive mechanics required; training in diesel mechanics preferred.
  • Ability to work under pressure of timelines.

REPORTS TO:

Director of Facilities, Farm, and Grounds

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform scheduled maintenance on vehicles, as prescribed by the Director of Facilities Farm and Grounds.
  • Perform visual inspections of vehicles and report any defects observed or repairs needed.
  • Fuel buses and maintain accurate records of the use of fuel and mileage of vehicles.
  • Check tire air pressure and fill as needed; change and repair tires, as necessary.
  • Check oil and other fluid levels and replace fluids as needed.
  • Maintain accurate, updated records of preventive maintenance.
  • Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
  • Follow safety procedures and techniques to perform other job duties, such as lifting, climbing, etc.
  • Maintain a safe work area. Clean in and around garage; dump rubbish, sweep floors, etc.
  • Drive a school bus route when needed.
  • Report for work during or after snowstorms to ready the fleet for the next runs.
  • Perform such other tasks and assume such other responsibilities not inconsistent with the role, as the Director of Facilities, Farm and Grounds may assign.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  1. This is a twelve-month position at 40 hours per week.
  2. This position is part of the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the American Federation of State County and Municipal Employees, Council 93, Local 245 and the School District.
