ESPO Corporation is Hiring a Site Safety Specialist Near Wallingford, CT

Site Safety SpecialistLocation: Wallingford, CT / Long Island, NY
Job type and Duration: Contract to Hire
Our client is looking to hire a Site Safety & Health Specialist to join their team in Wallingford, CT. and other North East offices. Local Candidates preferred.
In this position you will be part of the new Safety & Health team in the region. You will be reimbursed for travel and hotel expenses if assigned to a project that is not near your home / commutable for site visits. and either mileage or fleet car. 
The First project is out of Long Island with an Offshore wind project. So the person selected would need to have Electric Utility T&D experience and 3 years of experience. For staff level they would require a Bachelor’s degree or heavy years of experience above and beyond the 3 . CUSP is a nice to have. Along with standard OSHA certs. This position would be on-site 100% of the time but would be assigned into a local office.  
The Site Safety & Health Specialist will support the site project management team to deliver project-specific Safety & Health programs at the field location. This position will:
  • Create and implement safety policies and procedures to ensure a safe, healthy, and incident-free work site in a heavy construction environment.
  • Monitor Safety & Health activities on field construction projects to verify operations are executed as planned and conducted in a safe manner.
  • Execute Safety & Health Program deliverables as defined by the Corporate Safety & Health department by responding to questions and/or concerns related to site-specific safety and health compliance issues in a timely manner.
  • Maintain compliance with applicable Local, State, and Federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) rules and regulations.
  • Investigate actions related to a work stoppage when circumstances could lead to an immediate danger to life and health on a project.
  • Report safety and health concerns that have been resolved safely, and present the details and the personnel involved to the project management team.
  • Present safety and health information to the Corporate Safety & Health team to ensure that the project safety program is being implemented effectively and that required safety compliance has been documented.
  • Responsible for written and verbal communication with client Safety & Health department regarding any site safety & health issues, coordination of preventative measures, and building working relationships with project staff and each Subcontractor Safety Representative to ensure proper compliance is consistently maintained.
  • Conduct, monitor, and record project safety & health walk-through assessments with subcontractor safety personnel.
  • Present all safety assessment findings to appropriate parties.
  • Manage and document safety activities which require immediate correction and verify that these items are corrected in a timely manner.
  • Prepare documents to be distributed relative to safety, including assisting Site Management with correspondence to heighten safety awareness, project safety and health goals and ensure a safe and productive work environment is a priority among all project personnel.
  • Conduct and document training on environmental, safety & health subjects.
  • Review and complete, as necessary, near miss, property damage, environmental incidents and Accident Investigation reports and recommend countermeasures as appropriate.
  • Present project Safety & Health program progress, challenges, and objectives to Corporate Safety & Health.
  • Complete daily project Safety & Health reporting requirements and ensure project specific Safety & Health records are in an audit ready state at all times.
  • Verify project subcontractors maintain all required safety records in an audit ready state and submit all documentation as required to Corporate Safety & Health.
General Requirements:
  • Bachelor Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, or Construction Management and 3 years construction safety, general industry safety, or construction management.
  • Or Associate Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, or Construction Management and 5 years construction safety, general industry safety, or construction management.
  • Or High School Diploma/GED and 7 years construction safety, general industry safety, or construction management.
  • Experienced knowledge of Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) Construction and General Industry Regulations, as well as, America National Standards Institution (ANSI), National Institute for Occupational Safety & Health (NIOSH), Army Corps of Engineers (CoE), Engineers Manual 385-1 and National Electrical Code (NEC) Standards.
  • Must be proficient in the use of computer software (i.e., Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be willing to work various schedules at the project site location.
  • OSHA 10-hour Construction Outreach Safety Training Course Required or OSHA 30-hour Construction Outreach Safety Training Course Required
