Espanola Public Schools is Hiring a Teacher - Kindergarten Near Espanola, NM

Must have a New Mexico Public Education K-12 Special Education teaching license.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Properly certified in all areas of assignment;
  1. Demonstrate cooperativeness and willingness to carry-out assigned tasks and performance responsibilities;
  1. Bilingual endorsement is highly preferable;
  1. Other qualifications determined necessary by the Board.

REPORTS TO: Principal or designee/Director of Special Programs

General Supervisor - Superintendent

JOB GOAL: To provide each educable student with a program that will enable him/her to reach his/her fullest physical, emotional, psychological, and behavioral potential through individual education plan.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Provide a basis care program for educable students consistent with state education code requirements and locally adopted guidelines.
  1. Coordinate and supervise work experience and on-campus job training involving the Special Education student.
  1. Work cooperatively with classroom teachers who have Special Education students in regular classes, interpreting the abilities and disabilities of these students to the entire staff, and assisting the student with regular class assignments.
  1. Confer frequently with parents and professional staff members regarding the student’s wellness strengths, educational, social, personal behavior problems and progress of such students.
  1. Assist other professional staff members in resolving the unique psychological learning or disciplinary problems of each student.
  1. Assist in screening, evaluating and recommending placements of applicants in the school’s Special Education Program.
  1. Counsel individuals and groups of Special Education students with educational occupations and personal problems.
  1. Assist the Special Education students in making a realistic assessment of his/her abilities and in establishing educational and occupational goals in keeping these abilities.
  1. Provide motivation to students who have a short attention span.
  1. Establish and maintain standards of individual student behavior.
  1. Undertake continuing professional study of in the psychology of the special education student and in bilingual education referencing teaching methods related to this field.
  1. Keep attendance records and all other records pertinent of student activities to include in and out of school activities.
  1. Participate in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities to include in and out of school activities.
  1. Implement EPSS and participate in curriculum development programs, curriculum benchmarks, alignment, performance standards/assessments and revisions, inclusive of the bilingual curriculum and express your views and professional observation to the E.A. and R Committee and provide input in developing/modifying IEP(s).
  1. Gather data in order to develop strategies for student improvement.
  1. Initiate the selection of equipment and materials and maintains required inventory records.
  1. Supervise pupil in and out of school activities as assigned.
  1. Participate cooperatively with the appropriate administrators to develop the method by which the teacher will be evaluated in conformance with district guidelines.
  1. Administer Group Standardized Tests in accordance with district testing program.
  1. Administer the Language Assessment Scale Testing and Scoring in both English and Spanish.
  1. Participate in filling out Time Study for Medicaid reimbursement.
  1. Attend board meetings at the request of the Superintendent or his/her authorized designee.
  1. Arranging and attending fieldtrips (example: trips to the zoo, State Fair, swimming, bowling, etc.)
  2. Accompanying students to bathrooms, assisting with toileting, lifting as needed to assist student
  3. Rearranging classroom to accommodate student learning activities, developing learning centers and/or quiet areas,
  4. Transferring and/or relocating student working files
  1. Some travel involved from school to central office and other locations as needed
  1. Perform other assigned tasks required of the supervisor(s)

TERM OF EMPLOYMENT:

Term of employment is to be established on an annual basis, through the adoption of the school calendar.

SALARY:

Salary to be established on an annual basis, through the adoption of the Salary Schedule.

EVALUATION:

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of Support or Professional Personnel.
