Espanola Public Schools is Hiring a Teacher - Bilingual Near Ohkay Owingeh, NM

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Properly licensed, ELEMENTARY K-8, or K-12 Specialty license with Bilingual, Modern Classical Native and Language, and TESOL endorsements.
  2. Demonstrate cooperativeness and willingness to carry-out assigned tasks and performance responsibilities
  3. Bilingual Endorsement is a must
  4. Other qualifications determined necessary by the Board of Education

REPORTS TO: Immediate Supervisor(s)-Principal and Program Director (Shared Responsibilities)

General Supervisor-Superintendent of Schools

JOB GOAL: To provide each eligible student with the individually-tailored help, Spanish instruction and English Language Development services, and with the social-emotional experiences he/she needs to make progress toward educational goals, established with students’ limitations in mind and in abidance with funding requirements.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  1. Determine specific learning problems, sill deficiencies, or social adjustment difficulties of students and initiate remediation/supportive programs in the specific area(s) of need and subject to program requirements.
  2. Provide students with positive reinforcement and supportive instruction.
  3. Evaluate each student in terms of initial need and programs toward remediation and/or supportive services.
  4. Prepare progress reports and year-end evaluations, administering pre-tests and post-tests as appropriate and necessary.
  5. Make available a wide range of teaching materials and equipment, including reading materials and the like.
  6. Counsel students in identifying and dealing with their academic and social problems.
  7. Provide opportunities for students to explore life and career goals.
  8. Establish and maintain standards of individual student behavior.
  9. Communicate bi-weekly, monthly or sooner as the need arises, with parents, counselors and other teachers on student’s progress and behavior.
  10. Participate in faculty committees and sponsorship of student activities to include in and out of school activities.
  11. Participate in curriculum alignment, benchmarks, performance standards/assessments and revisions, inclusive of the bilingual and ELD curriculum and other developmental programs and implement EPSS.
  12. Enter data in order to develop strategies for student improvement
  13. Initiate the selection of equipment and materials and maintain required inventory records.
  14. Supervise pupil in and out of school activities as assigned.
  15. Participate cooperatively with the appropriate administrators to develop the method by which the teacher will be evaluated in conformance with district guidelines.
  16. Help parents to understand the specific problems of the student and the goals and operation of the program, apprising them of problems, behavior and progress.
  17. Participate in selection and evaluation of students for admission to the program of education for such students.
  18. Perform basic attendance accounting and similar record-keeping functions required of the program.
  19. Keep abreast of new developments in the field by reading journals and publications, attending professional society meetings, seminars, and the like, and discussing problems of mutual interest with others in the field.
  20. Administer Group Standardized Tests in accordance with district testing program.
  21. Administer the Language Assessment Scales Testing and Scoring in both English and Spanish.
  22. Support with the EL identification process and with the upkeeping of the bilingual cummulative folder
  23. Be an advocate for ELs and their needs by requesting materials and resources to bring Equity to them.
  24. Attend board meetings as requested by the Superintendent or his/her authorized designee.
  25. Perform all other assigned tasks required by the supervisor(s).

TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: work schedule and hours to be established on an annual basis, through the

Recommendation of the Superintendent.

SALARY: Salary to be established on an annual basis through the adoption of the Salary Schedules

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of Board Policies.
