Position Title: Secondary Dance Teacher
Reports to: Campus Principal

Position Category: Permanent/exempt/full-time/10 month contract
Position Summary: The secondary dance teacher is responsible for providing the highest quality experience and training for students in 7-12 grades, which includes techniques in ballet, jazz, and modern dance. This includes teacher-led classroom instruction providing students with the opportunity to think critically about their own choreography, work of peers, and historically significant works. Working with other faculty and administration, the teacher will support the school's mission through planning performances and curriculum development in alignment with Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) and the National Core Arts Standards.
Essential Job Function:
Provide daily instruction for secondary dance classes in grades 7-12.
Create and implement effective lesson plans that promote the highest levels of artistic scholarship, problem solving, and creative expression.
Endeavor to create a learning environment that integrates students' artistic abilities with their academic studies.
Establish efficient classroom management procedures.
Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior.
Establish a system of student evaluation within the guidelines adopted by the school district.
Collaborate with other faculty to create curriculum, develop student relationships, and prepare students for further training in academic/artistic settings.
Identify pupil needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students resolve health, attitude, and learning problems.
Attend staff meetings and professional development workshops, as required.
Create and maintain positive communication with administration, staff, faculty, students, parents, and community members.
Collaborate with special education teachers on student Individual Education Plans to ensure all accommodations are met.
Share the responsibility of interpreting the educational programs to the community through such activities as open house and PTSO meetings.
Plan and coordinate the work of aides and other paraprofessional and student teachers (when applicable).
Participate cooperatively with the principal to develop the system by which he/she will be evaluated in conformance with the district's uniform guidelines for evaluation and assessment.
Keep accurate records of student information; compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required by the school and district.
Create a positive, safe working environment, and be a role model and mentor for students.
Essential Job Requirements:
Education: Bachelor's degree required with a concentration in dance; Teacher certification or highly qualified designation preferred.
Experience: Ideally a minimum of three (3) years teaching dance.
Required Skills and Capabilities: Artistic skills commensurate with an experienced dance/teacher, excellent verbal and written communication; budget planning/management.
Preferred Skills and Capabilities: Proven experience collaborating with others to develop interdisciplinary academic products/classroom activities.
Physical Requirements: Ability to carry up to 25 lbs.; valid driver license.
