Description
As our Major Gifts Officer, you will develop and implement our major gifts program. You'll be responsible for managing and cultivating relationships with existing major gift prospects, as well as identifying new prospects. An ability to empathize with donors and clearly communicate our organization's mission is key. You'll be expected to energize team members, persuade prospects, and persevere to the end. This is a critical moment in our history to build our capacity and work with our donors to advance our mission. Your role in achieving our goals will be critical!
As our manager of the major gift program, you get to
  • Help our donors accomplish their philanthropic goals and ambitions through developing or enhancing their relationship with our organization.
  • Partner with the Senior Director of Development for all fundraising activities.
  • Build and manage a portfolio of major donors and prospects ($5,000 ) to grow to 100 individuals/families.
  • Create and implement appropriate cultivation and stewardship strategies for new and existing donors, matching donors' interests and goals with ECS' priorities and initiatives.
  • Participate in all aspects of gift cycle, including identification, engagement, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
  • Successfully complete ~12 high-touch donor-centered meetings/scheduled interactions each month.
  • Regularly qualify new prospects to determine their affinity for ECS' mission and propensity to contribute at the major gift level.
  • Work cross-functionally with executive and volunteer leadership to continually identify and refresh the organization's top philanthropic partners and prospects.
  • Communicate regularly with donors and help create materials and initiatives that reflect an energetic approach to cultivation and support.
  • Work with the Associate Director of Development and Communications to identify new potential major donor prospects via annual giving and establish a process for portfolio management between the two positions.
  • As needed, create cultivation events and donor experiences that showcase ECS' core mission.
  • Advocate and advance best practices in fundraising and relationship management.
  • Create customized proposals and presentations for major individual donors, as needed.
  • Utilize the donor database (Raiser's Edge) to maintain accurate records of all donor interactions, programmatic interests, contact reports, and types of support to solicit.

Qualifications
This job might be for you if
  • You're a true people person with an outgoing nature. You're a self-starter and are driven by results.
  • You have at least 5 years of nonprofit fundraising or sales experience, with a focus on individual and/or major giving. You make donors/customers feel valued because you're sensitive to their needs.
  • You possess a proven record of accomplishment soliciting and securing five-figure gifts or sales.
  • Experience working with volunteer/board leadership on prospect identification, cultivation, and solicitations.
  • You have outstanding relationship-building skills and the ability to handle confidential information with discretion and tact.
  • You have the ability quickly learn and articulate ECS' vision and programs to make a compelling, inspirational case for financial support.
  • You have exceptional writing and speaking skills and use them to compel individuals to action.
  • Knowledge of SF Bay philanthropy landscape, understanding of raising funds for those experiencing homelessness a plus.
  • Having proficiency working with donor management software, Raiser's Edge a plus.
  • You are culturally competent and excited to work with a diverse mix of talented people.
  • For you, none of the work of the development department is beneath you. You aren't afraid to roll up your sleeves and help where it's needed.
Physical prowess not required
  • You won't need the endurance of a marathon runner, but you will have some light physical demands (i.e. spending hours listening and talking; working on the computer and phone; and occasionally working long days, nights, or weekends).
