Job Specification:

The Director of Admissions assists the Administrator in managing the resident flow admissions process and marketing program for the facility. Responsibilities include guiding the marketing program for healthcare services to ensure strong resident, referrer, and payor satisfaction, appropriate market penetration, a positive public image, maximization of facility profitability, and census goals.

Responsibilities of Director of Admissions/Marketing:

  • Assess inquiries and respond to referrers promptly.
  • Meet census goals by coordinating resident flow into and through the nursing facility.
  • Ensure immediate response to phone, fax, and walk-in inquiries and referrals.
  • Complete the tour, application, and sales process with residents, families, and referrers.
  • Ensure proper completion, signing, and distribution of paperwork.
  • Meet with families and residents on the day of admissions, ensuring appropriate room preparation and introduction to nursing staff.
  • Communicate admissions criteria to referral sources, residents, and families.
  • Ensure comprehensive gathering and documentation of resident data for appropriate placement within the facility.
  • Maintain thorough knowledge of medical, social, and financial information related to the facility.
  • Conduct follow-up on inquiries not yet converted to admissions.
  • Work with the Administrator and appropriate staff to ensure consistent effective admissions, discharge, and transfer meetings.
  • Maintain statistics indicating resident flow, pending and lost inquiries, denials, hospital discharges, and marketing activity; submit to the corporate office.
  • Nurture referral relationships through an aggressive, resident-oriented admissions process.
  • Develop and maintain a referral base.
  • Initiate, nurture, and maintain contacts with physicians, social workers, and discharge planners to maximize referrals and facilitate admissions.
  • Stay abreast of services available within the facility and the community to serve as a liaison with hospital discharge planners, utilization review nurses, physicians, and other professionals.
  • Provide information to referral sources about residents' progress as appropriate.
  • Identify marketing opportunities for referring hospitals and physicians, working with the Administrator to follow up.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of long-range and short-term marketing plans.
  • Coordinate and participate in presentations about the facility or other appropriate healthcare topics to hospitals, physicians, and other potential referral sources.
  • Work with the Administrator to ensure resident satisfaction and assess/respond to resident satisfaction surveys.
  • Ensure the safety of all facility residents by minimizing the potential for fire and accidents.
  • Ensure facility adherence to legal, safety, health, fire, and sanitation codes.
  • Ensure that residents and families receive the highest quality of service in a caring and compassionate atmosphere, recognizing individuals' needs and rights.
  • Perform other duties as requested.

Qualifications of Director of Admissions:

  • Minimum of three years of experience in a healthcare setting.
  • Minimum of two years of college education in the field of healthcare administration, business management, and/or marketing or public relations preferred.
  • Computer literacy.
