    POSITION SUMMARY:
    This position is responsible for providing health care, medication and first aid to sick or injured students. Maintain and compile accurate student health records, files and database. Generate health-related reports and documents as required or requested. Verify, report and track student attendance. Assist with promoting health and wellness among students. Assist with other front office responsibilities. Develop and promote good community relations among stakeholders.
    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
    • Responsible for entering and tracking all health information for each child meeting ensuring compliance with Head Start and Child Care Licensing requirements.
    • Meet data entry deadlines of 45 and 90 days using the Child Plus software system.
    • Collaborate with the Health Coordinator from the Sheridan Head Start Grantee to support families and staff in meeting Head Start grant goals.
    • Follow COVID-19 health and safety protocols.
    • Provide major and minor first aid care to sick and injured students.
    • Determine the severity of injuries, call 911 if necessary, monitor chronic illness, monitor exposure of other diseases, properly dispose of body fluids and perform technical procedures as necessary (e.g. blood glucose testing, subcutaneous injectable epinephrine, diapering and/or catheterization).
    • Verify, track, record and report student attendance. Communicate with the principal and parents/guardians regarding unreported absences or tardiness.
    • Maintain accurate student immunization files and ensure all student files are state compliant.
    • Prepare immunization plans and track students who are in the process of updating immunizations.
    • Document, in student health file and record log daily, the care and treatment provided to each student.
    • Dispense medications and log into daily medication records, notify parents/guardians when medications are depleting. Ensure paperwork is maintained and on file for each student receiving medication.
    • Contact parents/guardians of ill or injured children, document all head injuries, file required accident reports in accordance with established health office policies and procedures and prepare student to go home if needed.
    • Prepare and maintain student health files, documents and reports, including documents to inform teachers/specialists of children with special health needs and District and state health reports such as State Immunization Report, asthma report, Varicella report and the District Health Conditions Report.
    • Act as school child abuse representative and assist with reporting suspected child abuse.
    • Maintain a clean, orderly and stocked health office, including inventorying and ordering supplies and updating health-related bulletin boards.
    • Update District Nurse regarding student health-related issues and student absences for health reasons.
    • Coordinate and perform vision and hearing screenings for students each year.
    • Recruit and train volunteers.
    • Make vision referrals for appropriate students and track student follow-up care.
    • Occasionally lift students in and out of wheel chairs for positioning, diaper changing and toileting.
    • Support the main office through performing clerical duties as needed, including answering phones, typing, enrolling or withdrawing students, data entry, greet and assist visitors.
    • Provide student supervision during recess/breaks, lunch, and/or on field trips.
    • Encourage an environment that is safe for responding and questioning, even for the shyest student.
    • Establish student, staff and parental rapport that allows for a proactive response to potential problems.
    • Actively participate in PLCs and other required training.
    • Apply and implement knowledge, skills and new understandings to support work environment.
    • Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.
    SUPERVISION/TECHNICAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
    Supervise the behavior and safety of students while in the health room. Provide data and reports related to student health, immunization, attendance and student count.
    Provide assistance in main office.
    BUDGET AND/OR RESOURCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
    Inventory and maintain health supplies.
    Monitor student medications.

    Bilingual (preferred).
    English fluency will be determined through the interview process.
    LICENSES OR CERTIFICATIONS:
    Valid Colorado Driver’s License.
    Valid CPR and First Aid Certification (preferred or receive within one month of hire).

    High exposure to disease due to caring for sick and injured students.
    Repetitive motion injury possible due to keyboarding and filing.
