Position Overview

Encore Wire is one of the nation’s top copper and aluminum wire manufacturers, outfitting residential, commercial and industrial spaces across the US for a customer base that would blow your mind! Producing over $1 billion of wire every year, with over 1,500 employees and almost 3 million sq. ft. of manufacturing space under our roof, we want to continue our history of growth. Role works directly with site leaders to drive Sustainability and Environmental accountability.

This person will need to be able to identify opportunities to improve efficiency within the operational areas of the facility, know how to develop and implement solutions through a continuous improvement culture, and lead by example. Therefore, this person must be highly organized, know how to prioritize their own workload and have the ability to engage people across the organization, while focusing on safety, waste reduction, scrap elimination and set up time reduction. This position is hands-on and requires the desire and ability to spend time on a shop floor that is not air-conditioned.

Essential Job Functions

  • Define current status of operational efficiency company wide.
  • Establish KPI’s, organize and set up meetings to keep track of what happens on the shop floor.
  • Identify sources of waste and implement strategies and solutions to eliminate or reduce them.
  • Identify, develop and then implement solutions to improve machine performance, reliability and or function. Includes making recommendations for machine upgrades.
  • Improve OSHA safety scores and overall equipment safety through project delivery.
  • Work with operations and maintenance to use problem solving analysis to eliminate sources of failure or downtime on equipment based on a problem reporting system that needs to be developed and that identifies operational problems.
  • Help maintenance to develop a preventive approach to avoid breakdowns before they occur.
  • Work with operations in developing and maintaining TPM.
  • Assist operations in identifying opportunities that will improve plant performance in safety, quality, productivity and delivery time.
  • Assist maintenance in troubleshooting, debugging, and repairing recurring problems.
  • Collect and analyze data as necessary to justify recommended projects.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Engineering degree (Bachelor’s).
  • Has minimum 5 years of experience in manufacturing engineering.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA requirements, specifically 29CFR 1910 Occupational Safety and Health Standards is essential.
  • Has proven organizational and project management skills, along with effective communication skills.
  • Strong desire to work in a TEAM environment with support and input from multiple sources.
  • Strong analytical skills with demonstrated problem-solving ability.
  • Strong knowledge and experience on implementing lean manufacturing tools, leading workshops or kaizen events.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude to analyze and understand how to improve equipment and its operation.
  • Know how to find or develop unique solutions to manufacturing and equipment issues.
  • Ability to design operator aids or small equipment modifications to improve operations.
  • Experience building and strengthening a continuous environment culture.
  • Experience on the use of software to analyze information that can be used to identify improvement opportunities in the operations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience on Self Directed High Performance Teams and Six-Sigma Analysis.
  • Experience working with hourly & salaried employees in an industrial environment.
  • Self-starter and a proven ability to work effectively with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to adapt well to fast-paced environments with changing circumstances, direction, and strategy.
  • Knowledge of MES systems, lean manufacturing, or the Toyota Production System.
  • Proficient with CAD, Autodesk or SOLIDWORKS.
  • Ability to speak Spanish.
  • Likes to turn wrenches and get dirty when that is needed.
