Director of Communications and Public Relations

Encompass Community Supports, formerly known as Rappahannock Rapidan Community Services (RRCS) is hiring a Director of Communications and Public Relations to work in our Culpeper office. Encompass Community Supports is a Virginia State community services organization that improves the quality of life in Culpeper, Fauquier, Madison, Orange, and Rappahannock Counties by providing comprehensive mental health, substance use, developmental disability, housing, children’s, and aging services. The Director of Communications and Public Relations plans, organizes, and directs the communication, marketing, and public relation activities for the agency. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Executive Director.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Implement executive communication initiatives including speech writing, presentation development, media preparation and support, and logistics as needed.
  • Develops strong relationships with industry groups, publications, and events.
  • Acts as the liaison for publications, media events, stakeholders, and board members.
  • Develops an annual plan for agency events including attendance, sponsorships, and other events.
  • Recommend appropriate tactics for effective engagement to raise awareness and strengthen our reputation with key influencers, policy makers and decision-makers.
  • Develop strategic proposals, communications plans, research, and analysis to meet annual fundraising goals.
  • Partners with the Sr. Director of Human Resources to create engagement plan for staff.
  • Ability to lead and/or manage crisis communication plans and respond to media and public inquiries on behalf of RRCS, as needed.
  • Partners with Director of Information Technology to formulate strategy for website management, including security, content-management tools, navigability, accessibility, content updates, and measurements of engagement.
  • Collaborate with Executive Director to create and distribute annual plan.

  • Has the ability to build rapport with internal and external stakeholders. The ability to analyze and evaluate complex media/public relations strategies and outcomes. Communicates ideas effectively both orally and in writing. Is proficient in technology use and communications for sharing data and information. Has the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, board members and the general public.
  • Is self-motivated and possess a positive team-player attitude, and has the ability to handle multiple projects and thrive in a very dynamic environment.
  • Has excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Must be dedicated and demonstrate creative and critical thinking abilities.
  • Takes personal responsibility for the quality and timeliness of work. Achieves results with little oversight.
  • Examines data to grasp issues, draw conclusions, and solve problems.
  • Displays imagination and the ability to approach situations and problems in a unique or non-traditional manner; develops fresh ideas that provide solutions to all types of workplace challenges.
  • Makes timely, rational, and realistic decisions based on information at hand, logical assumptions, available resources, goals, constraints, and risks.
  • Follows fiscal guidelines, regulations, principles, and standards when committing fiscal resources.
  • Promotes organizational mission and goals and shows the way to achieve them. Coordinates ideas and resources to achieve goals.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Communication, or Marketing or acceptable field. Five to 6 years of progressive responsible experience in Communications, Marketing, or Public Relations.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Valid Virginia driver's license: attends training and maintains certifications as required by the Agency and regulatory guidelines from licensing entities.
