Accountant I

Encompass Community Supports, formerly known as Rappahannock Rapidan Community Services (RRCS) is hiring an Accountant I to work in our Culpeper office. Encompass Community Supports is a Virginia State community services organization that improves the quality of life in Culpeper, Fauquier, Madison, Orange, and Rappahannock Counties by providing comprehensive mental health, substance use, developmental disability, housing, children, and aging services. The Accountant I assist in preparing and maintaining financial accounts and records according to standardized accounting practices; work is performed under regular supervision.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Prepares all cash receipts received from EDI's or money received by the front office, includes batching and keying.
  • Prepares monthly operating bank reconciliation; researches any difference and works with appropriate person to correct.
  • Prepares other multiple bank reconciliations; including (6) HUD homes – totaling 35 accounts, (8) petty cash accounts, and 6 interest earned accounts.
  • Maintains the main operating checkbook in excel spreadsheet. This includes entering cash deposits, EDI’s, etc. and recording A/P and Payroll transactions as completed by each department. Confirms the G/L and checkbook is in balance at all times.
  • Prepares deposits for HUD rent checks received; updates rent excel spreadsheets; records deposits in QuickBooks accounts.
  • Keys monthly fees received from Reimbursement.
  • Prepares and keys monthly journal entries, as well as any additional journal entries needed.
  • Assists in preparing various quarterly financial reports for both internal & external reporting.
  • Assists in preparing annual line-item budgets for various Agency programs.
  • Assists in preparing various year-end financials and reports.

OTHER FUNCTIONS:

  • Assists Accountant II in various financial duties; including but not limited to, maintaining DBHDS Warrant spreadsheet, maintaining LIPOS tracking spreadsheet, and other tasks as needed.
  • Provides back up to the payee duties of the AP/Payee Specialist.
  • Performs related tasks as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Thorough knowledge of the methods used in keeping fiscal accounts and records, and of office terminology, procedures, routines, and equipment.
  • Thorough knowledge of business arithmetic.
  • General knowledge of management, organization, and evaluation; general knowledge of Federal and State funding and billing regulations.
  • Ability to understand and carry out complex oral and written directions.
  • Ability to plan, organize and review the work of subordinate personnel.
  • Ability to solve problems within scope of responsibility.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with County officials, fellow employees, vendors, and the general public.
  • Skill in the operation of office equipment and computers; knowledge of MS Office, to include Word and Excel.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Degree in accounting preferred, or equivalent work experience may be substituted.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Valid Virginia driver's license: attends training and maintains certifications as required by the Agency and regulatory guidelines from licensing entities.
