The VP Modeling Center of Excellence proactively leads and manages all actuarial modeling efforts within the Corporate Actuarial team. This position oversees and manages the experience study process and works with the Chief Actuary to continue the evolution of this function in terms of governance and consistency with best practices. The VP Modeling leads transformation efforts to incorporate advanced analytics into models, leading to innovative solutions to further Empower's strategic mission.

This leader has overall accountability of the actuarial models while working closely with various stakeholders (e.g. Head of Valuation, Head of ALM, Risk and Investments) to achieve innovative modeling solutions and processes to meet business needs and regulatory changes.

What you will do

  • Proactively manage model development and ensures quality and timeliness of modeling deliverables. The modeling use cases include but are not limited to: IFRS financial reporting reserves/metrics, U.S. Statutory reserves and related regulatory analyses such as the modeling supporting asset adequacy analysis, tax reserves, and asset-liability management metrics and related strategic analyses.

  • Instill best practices in terms of model inputs, model updates, technical criteria, report templates, validation and review, etc.

  • Work in collaboration with our Actuarial Transformation team, identify and execute upon process improvements relating to all actuarial models.

  • Collaborates with all stakeholders including ALM, Risk, Valuation, Actuarial Operations, Finance, etc.

  • Constantly seek efficiency across actuarial models in terms of modeling approaches, management of model update processes, etc.

  • Promote and develop cross-training efforts to develop skills of all team members across all actuarial model platforms (i.e. primarily Axis and MG-Alfa)

  • Mentor and develop team members.

What you will bring

  • Bachelor's degree required (actuarial science, mathematics, statistics or similar background requiring modeling, programming or quantitative analysis)

  • FSA required

  • Minimum 20 years of work experience

  • Extensive background in actuarial modeling, including modeling of the spectrum of asset classes and modeling of retirement products (e.g. stable value, annuities, etc.) and life insurance business

  • Exposure to best practices for experience studies

  • Modeling skills - preferably ALFA or AXIS

  • Strong organizational and communication skills

  • Possesses strong leadership skills and ability to proactively manage and nurture junior resources.

  • Has developed depth and or breadth of expertise in own discipline (i.e. actuarial modeling) and broad knowledge of retirement products.

  • Strong expertise in actuarial modeling and systems

  • Strong knowledge of financial statements and underlying calculations/modeling thereof (e.g., IFRS, US Statutory, US Taxation)

Base Salary Range

$160,500.00 - $232,650.00

The salary range above shows the typical minimum to maximum base salary range for this position in the location listed. Non-sales positions have the opportunity to participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives, and in some instances a bonus plan, whereby total compensation may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance. Actual compensation offered may vary from posted hiring range based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer.
