Description:

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develops and analyzes a variety of research data using statistical methods.
  • Assists researchers in developing appropriate study protocols and computer analyses.
  • Manages computer systems, writes programs, and trains others in the use of systems.
  • Provides statistical expertise in the areas of study design and data analysis to investigators/researchers interested in conducting clinical or experimental studies.
  • Works effectively within a group setting in areas of design of data collection instruments, study design, database management, statistical programming, analysis of data, statistical graphics, and writing of reports which include explanations of methods used and interpretation of results obtained.
  • Consults with investigators to determine questions of interest and data needed to address those questions.
  • Determines and carries out appropriate statistical analyses.
  • Interprets and presents data descriptions and analysis results including the explanation of statistical techniques used, the assumptions made and the generalization of results.
  • Documents methods and results through preparation of interdepartmental memoranda and reports.
  • Performs related responsibilities as assigned.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

This full-time position will report to the lead statistician and have the following responsibilities:

  • Identify and secure existing administrative databases needed to create measures of features of the risk environment, including but not limited to measures of the enforcement of laws governing drug use in pregnancy.
  • Develop relevant measures of the risk environment, including creating extensive meta-data documentation for them, and conducting rigorous quality checks and analyses of variable distributions.
  • Support the acquisition of hospital discharge data.
  • Develop the patient-centered longitudinal hospital discharge databases for each state, including creating extensive metadata documentation for them, and conducting rigorous quality checks and analyses of variable distributions.
  • Support and conduct Bayesian analyses of the distributions of drug-related harms during pregnancy and the postpartum period, and of the distributions of implementation activities for laws governing drug use in pregnancy.
  • Support and conduct Bayesian and DID analyses of relationships between features of the risk environment (including measures of the enforcement of laws governing drug use in pregnancy) and drug-related harms among pregnant and postpartum people, overall and by race/ethnicity, insurance status, and rurality/urbanicity.

Opportunities abound for ongoing professional development, including leading papers and conference presentations as a first author and co-author, and participating in journal clubs and work in progress seminars organized by the CORAL center.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A bachelor's degree in statistics, biostatistics, computer science, or a related field and two years related experience, OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • MPH in biostatistics, epidemiology, or an equivalent degree
  • Strong data management skills in R or SAS
  • Knowledge of causal modeling, and Bayesian and geospatial methods
  • Interest in developing a career in reproductive justice and or harm reduction
  • Strong capacity to work independently
