Job Description:

The Chief Revenue Cycle Officer directs and oversees all aspects of the consolidated revenue cycle operation for Emory Healthcare. This individual is responsible for overall revenue cycle operations including, Admitting and Pre- Service activity, Health Information Management, Clinical Documentation Improvement, revenue integrity, customer service, training, and ensuring all billing, compliance and government regulations are followed to drive the collection of $6 billion plus in net revenue annually. This includes systemwide leadership of people, processes, and technologies with an operating budget of $193 million.

Reporting RelationshipReporting to the Chief Financial Officer of Emory HealthCare, the Chief Revenue Cycle Officer oversees approximately 1,200 FTEs.

Principal Accountabilities:• Manages individuals, including but not limited to hires, trains, assigns work, managers and evaluates performance, conducts professional development plans, and promotes employee engagement. Ensures that the productivity and actions of that group meet/support the overall operational goals of the department as established by department leadership.• Defines and implements long-term revenue cycle strategies that allow the organization to sustain efficient and contemporary best-practice documentation, coding, payment and collection processes and patient engagement.• Maintains a collaborative, supporting relationship with stakeholders across the enterprise and encourages direct reports to ensure integration of processes that will achieve optimal patient and financial outcomes.• Develops and adheres to departmental staffing, revenue and/or expense budgets. Responds to changes in the business which may affect the ability to achieve the budget goals.• Manages all revenue cycle functions to ensure accurate and complete data capture of demographics and insurance data required for billing and collections. Supports all revenue cycle functions and manages performance metrics and service level agreements.• Develops policies and procedures and operational benchmarks for system-wide, best practice standardization. Ensure the efficiency of operations and compliance with policies, procedures, regulations, laws, and standards.• Advise and collaborate with hospital finance and clinical leaders to ensure excellent patient experience, complete documentation, and optimal financial results.• Provide oversight of denial management including recommendations for process/system enhancements, escalation, and overall coaching, leading, and developing staff.• Ensure that staffing levels are optimized across revenue cycle to include Patient Access (Registration, Patient Financial Services, Referrals, and Authorizations), Health Information Services (HIM, coding, and CDI), Revenue Management (billing, collections, cash posting, payment variances, and clinical appeals), Business Support (finance, analytics, revenue integrity, performance improvement, liaisons, and quality and training).• Optimize use of revenue cycle technology.

Minimum Qualification:• A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline. Master’s degree preferred.• Ten or more years of demonstrated leadership experience effectively managing and successfully improving revenue cycle operations in a large, complex, multi-facility healthcare environment.• Excellent relationship building skills with the ability to collaborate and work with people at all levels.• Proven record of working with and understanding partnerships with payers, including the challenges and opportunities.• Experience working in Epic revenue cycle is highly desirable.• Academic healthcare experience is preferred.
