The Division of Animal Resources is seeking to hire a Veterinary Technician level II (two), or III (three).
The level of Veterinary Technician position offered to the selected finalist will be determined after the completion of the interview processes and based on related education and experience as outlined below by the minimum qualifications associated with each position.
Please take note of the varying job responsibilities between each level, as well.
JOB DESCRIPTIONS :
Veterinary Technician II (two)
Under general supervision, assists the veterinarians and researchers in surgery and radiology, animal care, treatments, and diagnostic and preventative procedures.
Maintains medical records and inventory.
Provides non-surgical technical assistance to researchers as directed.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
A high school diploma or equivalent.
Three years of experience as a veterinary technician OR a high school diploma or equivalent and four years of experience as an animal care technician OR graduation from a two-year veterinary technician program and one year of veterinary technician experience.
Veterinary Technician III (three)
Under minimal supervision, assists veterinarians and researchers in anesthesia, surgery, post-operative care, radiology, animal care and treatments.
Observes animals and reports abnormalities, sickness, and injury.
Assists in diagnostic, preventative and research procedures.
Under minimal supervision, may perform minor surgical procedures or other minor invasive procedures. Assists in colony management.
May assist in data collection or reporting for designated aspects of research, animal care programs, or colony management.
May participate in integrated program of animal environmental enrichment.
Maintains animal records and inventory. Assists in capture and restraint of animals.
Aids in training new veterinary and / or animal care technicians.
Performs related responsibilities as required.
Employees in this classification may be required to work with, take special precautions against and / or be immunized against hazardous agents.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
Requires two years of occupational specific training from a college or university or an associate's degree in biology or related field, and four years veterinary technical experience with a minimum of two years in a laboratory animal setting.
A bachelor's degree in a related field and two years veterinary technical experience in the laboratory animal field.
Certification at the LAT level by AALAS may substitute for the educational requirement but requires five years veterinary technical experience, and certification at the LATg level by AALAS requires four years veterinary technical experience.
Equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience.
A valid Georgia's divers license and an insurable driving record.
Certification at ALAT level preferred.
ADDITIONAL JOB DETAILS :
The daily responsibilities of Veterinary Technicians in Large Animal Surgical Services include :
Providing direct support for large animal anesthetic and surgical events.
Assisting with management and maintenance of large animal surgery areas and equipment.
Providing large animal post-operative and clinical care.
Providing clinical care for non-large animals as needed, and other related duties as assigned.
Participating in the weekend and holiday on-call rotation schedule with DAR treatment / triage or surgical veterinary staff.
The finalist selected for this position should meet qualifications to drive Emory University vehicle(s) and must meet physical demands of job duties such as standing for extended periods and the ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
NOTE : Position tasks are required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location; working remote is not an option.
