HVAC Mechanic – Salt Lake City, UT

NCS/EML Joint Venture is seeking an experienced Lead HVAC Mechanic for our Federal Contract site at the Bennett Building in Salt Lake City, UT.

SUMMARY

Lead HVAC Mechanics will perform maintenance, servicing, and repair of refrigerant-containing equipment/systems to all required specifications. HVAC Mechanics shall have at least five years of journeyman level experience (obtained within the last seven years) in the field of maintenance, repair and operation of HVAC-related systems.

DUTIESAND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Installs, services and repairsenvironmental-control systems in residences, office buildings, and othercommercial establishments, utilizing knowledge of refrigeration theory,pipefitting, and structural layout.
  • Must have journeyman level knowledgeand full capability to repair and service all ranges of package units, splitsystems, and chiller systems.
  • Must have knowledge and fullcapability to repair and service all ranges of boiler systems.
  • Mounts compressors and condenserunits on platform or floor, using hand tools, following blue prints orengineering specifications.
  • Fabricates, assembles and installsductwork and chassis parts, using portable metalworking tools and weldingequipment.
  • Installs evaporator unit in chassisor in air-duct system, using hand tools.
  • Cuts and bends tubing to correctlength and shape, using cutting and bending equipment and tools.
  • Joints tubing or pipes to variousrefrigerating units by means of sleeves, couplings or unions, and soldersjoints, using torch, forming complete circuit for refrigerant.
  • Installs expansion and dischargevalves in circuit.
  • Connects motors, compressors,temperature controls, humidity controls and circulating ventilation fans tocontrol panels and connects control panels to power source.
  • Installs air and water filters incompleted installation.
  • Injects small amount of refrigerantinto compressor to tests systems and adds Freon gas to build up prescribedoperating pressure.
  • Observes pressure and vacuum gaugesand adjusts controls to insure proper operation.
  • Tests joints and connections for gasleaks, using gauges or soap and water solution.
  • Wraps pipes in insulation battingand secures them in place with cement or wire bands.
  • Replaces defective breaker controls,thermostats, switches, fuses and electrical wiring to repair installed units,using electrician's hand tools and test equipment.
  • Other duties as required by thecompany may be assigned, including other general maintenance tasks.
QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATIONand/or EXPERIENCE

Must possess at least 5 years of recent (within the past 7years) experience in the inspection, testing, and maintenance of equipment and HVAC systems comparable in complexity to systems at these facilities. Additionally, all HVAC Mechanics must possess a Universal EPA Certification and one or more of the following certifications:

  1. North American Technician Excellence (N.A.T.E.) HVAC Service Technician Certification'
  2. HVAC Excellence Professional Level Certification
  3. UA Star HVACR Mastery Certification

A detailed resume containing athorough description of the previous 7 years of employment history withreferences and copies of all required certifications must be submitted, as theContracting Officer has to provide approval prior to the assignment of theproject manager to the contract.

LANGUAGESKILLS

Abilityto read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively presentinformation in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, andother employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICALSKILLS

Abilityto add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using wholenumbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, andpercent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONINGABILITY

Abilityto apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolvedwritten or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a fewconcrete variables in standardized situations.
