Emergency Food Network is Hiring a Maintenance/Custodian Near Lakewood, WA

IDEAL CANDIDATE:

  • Proficiency in using cleaning equipment and supplies
  • Attention to detail in maintaining a clean and sanitary environment
  • Able to conduct landscaping, minor carpentry, basic plumbing, familiarity with electrical systems and safety precautions

OUR STORY:

EFN’s mission is to provide Pierce County with a consistent, diverse, and nutritious food supply so that no person goes hungry. EFN, located in Lakewood, WA, was established in 1982. In a given year, we distribute over 14 million pounds of food and serve over 75 partner food pantries, meal sites, and shelters. The food comes from a variety of sources including donation, purchasing, and government distribution programs. We also run an 8-acre farm in the Puyallup Valley that grows food organically for distribution to food pantries. Our Board of Directors and Ambassador Board are active and engaged. Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion are central to our agency vision, and we include all staff and board members in this ongoing work and training.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Perform routine janitorial duties across 3 buildings, such as dusting, mopping, sweeping, and vacuuming floors. Daily tasks include: clean and sanitize restrooms, including toilets, sinks, and fixtures; empty and dispose of trash and recycling bins; and maintain cleanliness of common areas, such as hallways and lobbies.
  • Maintain outside grounds, including weeding, trimming, bush manicure, etc. Operate vehicles to execute yard cleanup, respond to yard incidents, escort vendors, and pick up parts and materials as required.
  • Inspect facilities regularly to identify and address cleanliness issues, maintenance needs, and safety hazards.
  • Collaborate with facility managers to prioritize cleaning needs and schedule tasks effectively. Fill out necessary paperwork or requisitions for materials as requested, keep daily work order logs for all work,
  • Perform minor maintenance tasks and all other duties assigned to the distribution center's general upkeep and maintenance.
  • Assist in all duties related to the preventive maintenance programs, such as pest control, and update records associated with these programs.
  • Respond promptly to any cleaning emergencies and facility requests or complaints.
  • Complete light carpentry work such as building racks, shelving, and repairing workbenches, as well as completing minor plumbing tasks such as repairing faucets and landscape sprinklers.
  • Perform warehouse duties when needed by the warehouse manager.
  • Execute light mechanical work such as servicing and repairing hand tools and minor floor machines.
  • Assist in the installation/removal of various equipment items throughout the distribution center.
  • Paint necessary areas, touch up all equipment as needed, remove cardboard, and operate snow removal equipment to clean all walks, roads, and parking lots as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Possess or have the ability to obtain a valid WA state driver’s license
  • Able to work both independently and in a team environment
  • Capable of lifting a minimum of 50 pounds and able to endure up to 8 hours of physical work per day.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent, and six months custodial/janitorial experience
  • Effective communication skills
  • Basic to intermediate math and computer skills – MS Word, Excel, and Outlook; able to learn to operate the warehouse management system, FLOWTRAC
  • Able to be certified to operate all power equipment
  • Able to use maintenance tools, saws, drills, etc.
  • Able to read labels, tickets, instructions, etc.
  • Must efficiently manage various tasks with accuracy and attention to detail while adhering to deadlines
  • Ability and willingness to promote and support others in a culture of teamwork and cooperation
  • Able to work with minimal supervision and initiative-taking
  • Previous cleaning, carpentry, maintenance, and/or landscaping experience desired

WORK SCHEDULE:

Full-time Monday to Friday from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm with overtime paid for any hours worked over 40 each week

COMPENSATION STARTING:

  • Hourly pay at $25 per hour depending on experience
  • Benefits start accruing 60 days after employment and include:
  • 2 weeks of vacation accrued during the first year, increases to 3 weeks vacation in the second year and each year after (up to a maximum of 4 weeks per year)
  • 8 hours of sick leave accrued each month
  • We provide medical (low deductible) vision, dental, short- and long-term disability, and life insurance and EFN currently covers 100% of the cost of the employee’s insurance premiums
  • EFN has a 403(b) plan and contributes 5% after the employee has been employed six months
