The Director of Quality Assurance position is located in our Tinley Park, Illinois office, reporting to VP of Quality. The role of this position has the overall responsibilities of the quality assurance for the Navigation business at Tinley Park, including maintaining site ISO9001 certification, assuring product quality and customer spec are met, and working with cross functional teams to maintain or establish processes in all quality management aspects.

As Director of Quality, the critical role is also in promoting Six Sigma culture, identifying and driving continuous improvement projects, to achieve the company wide goals in cost saving, cycle time reduction and improve product quality level.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • The Salary Range for this position is $160k to $180k, depending on experience and skill levels.
  • Lead site wide quality management functions, including incoming material, in-process, and outgoing product quality to meet product specifications, configuration management and customer quality flow down requirements, and supplier quality.
  • Lead internal and external auditing efforts to maintain ISO9001 quality certification and quality standards and moving the quality certification toward AS9100 in the near future. Develops, coordinates, and enforces systems, policies, procedures, and productivity standards.
  • Overseeing new product development projects to ensure quality is designed in.
  • Direct and coordinate the implementation of plans to assure that customer, government and regulatory requirements are satisfied, and that company goals and objectives are achieved.
  • Review quality flow-down requirement from customer POs and RFQs to make sure our processes are complying.
  • Assessment the adequacy of the existing processes, propose for process improvement ideas, lead process improvement team to implement changes.
  • Lead quality management system function to ensure compliant with QMS processes and procedures.
  • Establish quality processes to close gaps of any deficiencies identified through different audits and projects, CAR/PAR and Six Sigma projects.
  • Participate in the development of short and long-range continual improvement plans. Lead identified Six Sigma projects
  • Participate, and/or lead, specific customer-driven quality initiatives.
  • Develop and conduct supplier reviews and improvement programs, in cooperation with purchasing department, to assure that supplier performance meets company expectations.
  • Promoting Six Sigma culture through training, and leading improvement projects using the DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control) process.
  • Lead new product development quality efforts, ensure design for quality, design for manufacturability are in the consideration in the development phases.
  • Monitoring current state customer returns and managing customer return process and recommend/lead improvement activities.
  • Manage site quality assurance team. Provide direct supervision with performance reviews relative to direct reports. Build an effective and highly motivated quality team.
  • Setting up challenging, yet reachable OKRs for QA team. Lead team members to reach the objectives to meet business and customer needs.
  • Lead team by examples and coaching team members to reach their highest potentials.
  • Accomplishes department objectives by managing staff, planning, and evaluating department activities.
  • Develops personal growth opportunities for employees.
  • Accomplishes staff results by communicating job expectations, planning, monitoring, and appraising job results.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • 15 years experience in Quality Management roles.
  • 5 years Military and Defense contract experience.
  • Minimum Bachelor of Science degree in an Engineering discipline such as Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, Material Science, Reliability, etc.
  • In-depth knowledge of IS09001, AS9100, and defense industry quality standards.
  • Excellent communication skill to work with major customers.
  • Experience in Six Sigma, Shainin Strategies, Lean, 5S.
